4. GUS AND THE MYSTERIOUS ADDITIONAL FIN.

STEVEN WOKE UP WITH A start. He felt a layer of sweat forming on his skin. His heart racing out of his chest. His eyes glancing around the area he was in, realising he was in his own bed, in his own flat. He had woke up, fearing that he was up in the Alps, fighting a bunch of people and driving a cupcake van, he was just glad that it was all just a strange and vivid dream. That he was safe and sound in his own bed in London.

His restrain was even around his ankle, causing him to sigh in relief as he undid it. Wiping his forehead with the back of his hand as he got out of bed. Walking over to his front door to rip the duct tape off it. His barefeet hitting against the floorboards, the sand he placed around his bed untouched until he got out of bed. Feeling confident that the Alps adventure never happened as he began to go about his day, preparing himself some cereal for breakfast.

He turned on the TV onto a documentary about the Neanderthals and sat down in his desk chair. Briefly glancing over at his goldfish as he swam around his fish tank.

"How we doin', Gus? Ya sleep all right?" Steven asked, putting a spoonful of cereal into his mouth, chewing and swallowing it, "Hmm? I wonder what fishes dream about," He said, about to lift another spoonful into his mouth when suddenly he stopped. His eyes widening in confusion as he slowly turned his head to look at Gus.

He dropped the spoon back into the cereal, the milk splashing around and landing on his joggers, but he didn't care about it. He felt too shocked at what he realised he just saw. Steven put the bowl down onto his desk and stood up, walking over to the fish tank, his eyes staring at the fish unblinkingly.

Gus swam around. Moving his fins as he explored his tank. A shocked Steven staring at him, practically pressing his face up to the glass. Gus never had all of his fins. Not since the day Steven got him, "What the..." He mumbled to himself.

He ran around his flat. Looking for the perfect thing to transport Gus in. Eventually he used his kettle. Filling it up with some water and transporting Gus from his home into it and rushing down to the fish shop not too far from his flat. Telling the woman that worked there about how Gus' fin grew back.

"What do you mean, 'grew back'?" She asked, looking confused between Steven and the goldfish in the kettle.

"Yesterday, that fish had one fin, yeah?" Steven explained, "It was like that when I bought him. Today, what do ya see?"

"I see two..."

"Two fins!" He yelled, his voice loud, causing the shop owner to jump, "Yeah, sorry," He quickly apologised, "But yeah, he's got two fins now. So, is that normal, or...?"

"Well, if ya wanna swap it, go ahead," She shrugged, "But like I said yesterday, they've all got--"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Steven shook his head, his face contouring with confusion, "What do ya mean yesterday? I wasn't here yesterday."

She scoffed, "Yeah, all right. Look, as I said, they've all got two fins. Now, I don't care what that Nemo movie says. You find me a pet shop that sells disabled fish and go there. I don't have time for this," She rolled her eyes, walking over to stand behind the counter.

Steven's eyes followed her every movement. Widening when he saw the clock hanging up on the wall above the counter, "Wait, is that...Is that clock right?" He asked, panicked as he spotted it was already almost six in the afternoon. He shook his head in disbelief, "No, that's impossible. I just woke up."
