In the days following your storytime with Jamie, the people who took you into that old school had finally shipped you and your friend off to a more secure facility. Specially designed and built for holding 'Radiants'. That's what you were called now; you soon came to realize that you were discriminated against for your new power, looked down and spat upon by people who no longer saw you as human.
During the ride over, you, Jamie, and a handful of other radiants were stuffed into the back of a wide, caged trailer connected to an even larger black truck, it was almost like a Semi-truck, but with more mass. Cars surrounded the trailer on each side, front, back, and either side; Like a protected convoy.
Most of the radiants were sat down, either looking frightened, angry, or like they were on the verge of doing something drastic and permanent. Some stood up, watching out of the cage as the buildings passed by, the wind blowing
"Well, the one upside positive to being shipped in a cage," Jamie said. You saw him running his fingers through his dirty afro in your peripheral. "The breeze is... uh Exhilarating?" He said, trying to find the correct word.
That earned a grin from you, "Immaculate vocabulary." You replied, chuckling slightly. You appreciated his optimism, especially now, you might as well call this child trafficking. This wasn't a very bright circumstance and you could tell the other young radiants thought the same; you could see it in their eyes.
You're eyes scanned around, looking at the other young radiants, Each of them seeming around your age, if not a year older or younger. One of them caught your eye. A Mexican girl with long black hair, purple eyes, and a lonely, stoic look on her face as she stared off into space. She was hugging her knees in a corner, isolating herself from the others.
As if she sensed your gaze, her eyes shot up and met yours. You realized how frightened she was, though it was hiding just below the surface of her seemingly angry face, you could tell it was mostly a mask to cover her fear.
You noticed her expression harden as she gazed at you, and suddenly, you found your vision tunneling into a cloudy purple, it was blinding. You looked away and grunted in surprise, blinking rapidly until your vision slowly came back.
Jamie grabbed your shoulder, "Yo bruv, you good? What happened?"
You rubbed your eyes and gestured toward the girl. Jamie glanced at her, then slowly nodded. "Ooh. Yeah, that one's... uh, Zyanya? I think. I talked to her once, and let me just say, that girl is a pure-bred Latina, do NOT piss her off," he said, breathing out sharply while shaking his head.
"Well I only looked at her... did she make you see purple?" You asked, still trying to blink your vision back as it was still cloudy.
Jamie raised an eyebrow, "Purple?" He said in a questioning tone, "Hm, So it is true. I heard rumors before you got here, some of the others were saying it was part of her powers... that's why I went up and talked to her, 'cause I'm like that, and guess what? Nothin' happened!" he shrugged. "But if it happened to you-"
"Maybe she likes you? I don't know." You said, cutting him off, your vision finally returning as you looked up at Jamie, who appeared blurry. "Whatever she did, it messed up my vision. You're less than a foot away from me and you're all fuzzy.
"Maybe..." he said, his lips curling into a grin. "... that or, you've got the eyes for HER!" He said with a wide grin, shaking you by the shoulders.
You noticed other radiants close by look back at you with dirty looks, taking another glance at Zyanya, then looking back to Jamie trying not to smile, but you couldn't hide the awkward feeling. He continued shaking you until you spoke again.
