"And where have you been?" Was the first words Blu heard when entering the large room filled with exercise equipment and a large open space for sparring. This must be some kind of gym. He was already getting hostile looks.
Oh, and yes, Pico was pissed.
"I got kidnapped, bugger off!" Blu scoffed and stepped onto the open platform. Before he could say anything else, there was a green and orange blur that streaked past him, and so Blu turned around to face him. Before he could blink, Blu's entire body was in the air before being slammed on the ground back first.
"Ooooooooowwwww..." Blu groaned on the floor. His wings hurt the most. Pico had just thrown a literal demon over his shoulder in the blink of an eye.
"Looks like I can finally beat your ass outside the bedroom." Pico whispered in Blu's ear, which promptly caused the little blue demon to smack him away with his long tail.
"Hey, watch it!" The ginger barked a laugh, "That thing totally counts as a whip. Are you into things you're not telling me about?"
"Pico, I fucking swear- shut up!" Blu snarled, even though he was partially laughing with his freckled friend. He charged forward, but Pico lifted his foot and hit Blu square in the chest, sending him back on the ground.
"Hey now, get up. We're not done here." His white eyes narrowed as Pico took a new stance. Blu nodded, pushing himself to his feet with a grunt.
Despite the ache in his wings and the new soreness in his chest where he'd been kicked, he knew Pico was right. It's time to focus and learn to fight.
Even though this was meant to be a friendly sparring session, Pico was in a dangerous situation, one wrong move from Blu could kill him, they both knew that. He would have to fight without fatally wounding him.
I need to think, I can't just charge it! Is he fighting me like this on purpose because he wanted me to see that? I wouldn't be surprised.
"Alright," Blu said, taking a deep breath and steadying himself. "Round two?"
"You bet." Pico grinned, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Everyone in the room had quickly gathered around to watch the battle between man and demon, the uncertainty of a potentially bloody outcome piqued everyone's curiosity.
They circled each other like hungry vultures, red and white eyes locked, each waiting for the other to make the first move. Blu rubbed his chest where he had been kicked, feeling the sting of pain gradually disappear. It is near where Carter had shot him earlier, which had healed within minutes on its own. He took a moment to assess Pico's stance, noting the slight shift in weight told him that Pico was about to move.
Even though Blu was ready, Pico lunged forward quicker than he was anticipating, aiming a swift kick at Blu's midsection this time. Blu jumped backwards, narrowly avoiding the blow, and countered with a quick jab aimed at Pico's shoulder. Pico blocked it effortlessly, pushing his claws to the side, his reflexes honed from years on the streets.
Blu wasn't experienced in hand-to-hand combat at all, but he was small and moved swiftly on his hooves. And, most of all, he was a quick learner. He ducked under Pico's punch and delivered a low sweep, aiming to knock Pico off balance. He succeeded, but Pico recovered with ease with a sickass backflip, landing on his feet straight into another fighting stance.
So this is what he's capable of, I hope he doesn't mind if I turn it up a notch!
Blu's movement intensified, but so did his opponent's. Despite his constant teasing, Pico was a formidable opponent. He's like a dog that has both a viscous bark and a scarier bite to back it up.
Blu focused on defending himself from the next few blows, blocking Pico's strikes, but Pico was too fast for Blu to think of a counterattack.
They danced around the sparring mat, the sounds of their grunts and the occasional thud of impact echoing in the room. The many onlookers watched with awe as the two young men dashed around each other.
Blu finally managed to land a solid punch to Pico's side, causing him to groan in response. Pico retaliated with a series of weak yet quick kicks, aiming to overwhelm Blu and make him lose focus.Blu's wings flared out instinctively and flapped, sending him backwards and out of range and throwing Pico - and the people behind him - off balance with a strong gust of wind.
Blu managed to land a few glancing blows, but even so, Pico was just unpredictable, constantly mixing up his strikes and feints.
As they continued to spar, Blu began to feel the rhythm of the fight, his movements becoming slightly more fluid and precise. He ducked under a brutal roundhouse kick from Pico and countered with a spinning kick of his own with his hooves, actually catching Pico off guard, causing him to stagger back. Finally, the ginger was growing tired. After all, he's still human, and Blu felt like he could fly around the world- twice!
After several more minutes, Blu and Pico finally called a temporary truce, both breathing heavily, the adrenaline of the fight still coursing through them. Pico was the clear winner despite ending with him kneeling on the floor from exhaustion, as if he was fighting with all he had.
"Damn, Blu," Pico said, wiping his brow with the back of his hand. "You're not the best, but you can think quickly, that's your strength, remember that when you're backed into a corner." Blu chuckled, rubbing his bruises, attempting to heal himself.
"You're seriously crazy at this, what the hell, dude!"
They shared a laugh, the tension from the fight dissipating as they walked off the sparring mat together. The onlookers dispersed, chatting excitedly amongst themselves about what they had just witnessed.
As they headed towards a refreshment area to grab some water, Blu couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. He had learned more about combat in those few minutes than he had in his entire life. He was never strong enough to even beat Pico in an arm wrestle, and now, they're able to keep up with each other in a fight.
"I'm actually pretty rusty at the moment, would you believe that?" Pico cleared his throat after a long sip. "Yeesh, I gotta spar with Lynn next, I'm already worn out!"
"Are you serious? You can do better than that? Blu gasped, both excited and maybe a tad bit intimidated at the idea."I've gained a bunch of weight since I stopped my... previous job. You can't see my ribs anymore, which is sweet, but I lost my six pack and that was a total bummer."
"Ah, I thought you looked different since I last saw you. Seriously, you've changed for the better. I'm impressed that it's gotta be hard to do... especially for you.""Oh... thank you, Blu. That really means a lot. It was hard, but I feel amazing now. I don't regret a thing." Pico hummed, refilling his cup with more water as Blu's hands glided over some bruises Pico had.
Just then, there was a commotion at the entrance of the gym. The pair looked over and found Lynn waving at them with a goofy expression.
"What's going on over there?" Blu called, feeling as if Lynn did something sneaky.
"I've heard that you've developed some magic, brat!" A familiar voice cackled from behind him. As Blu turned, he recognized the two silver demons that had entered the room. The bigger of the two cracked his joints and flicked his long, forked tongue. His iguana tail was positioned at an intimidating angle.
"We've traveled a long way to get here, don't make us regret it!" Jarvis declared with a devious grin with Jack standing next to him with a notebook and pen out, ready to take notes. Blu felt a smile across his face, feeling a new surge of power.
"Bring it on."
