"Caitlin Clark is engaged! The young basketball star posted her engagement to Instagram last night with the caption 'There's no one else I can imagine doing this life thing with.' How cute!"

Jessica was sitting on her couch eating ice cream that she wasn't supposed to as she watched the report from Entertainment Tonight. She licked the back of the spoon and stared at the TV thoughtfully.

Lilo was sitting on the couch beside her curled up and Jessica looked down at her dog, "Do you think she could have come up with a better caption?"

Lilo lifts her head as she looks at Jessica. The former reporter nods as she digs her spoon into the ice cream carton, "I think so as well. Oh well, straight people are going to eat this up."

Jessica's phone buzzes. And then it buzzes again. And then there is just an onslaught of notifications. Jessica takes her phone off of the coffee table to stop the insane buzzing and then she begins receiving a call.

"Hello?"

"Jessica hey how have you been?" Melody's voice comes through the phone.

"I'm good," Jessica says as she slots the phone between her ear and shoulder and continues eating her ice cream, "How are you? How's wedding planning?"

"It's going great," Melody responds, "You're still good for next year, right?"

Jessica laughs, "Mels, please stop planning your wedding around my schedule."

"I need my Maid of Honor there," Melody says, "Speaking of weddings, did you hear the news about Caitlin?"

"Oh yeah I knew about it weeks ago," Jessica says, "She randomly popped up at my apartment and told me. Someone gave her my address and I have to figure out who the leak is in my circle. But yeah, she's engaged to Connor. Oh well."

"You know what? That's the Jessica I know and love!" Melody exclaims, "The one that's going to have a date for my wedding!"

Jessica laughs, "Yeah sure. I'm in therapy right now and we're unpacking how I fumbled probably one of the best relationships of my life."

Jessica can practically hear Melody wince on the phone. Melody and Jessica had spent their college years apart with Jessica going to UNC and Melody going to UCLA. When Jessica told Melody that she'd broken up with Jackie before the draft, Melody flew from California to North Carolina and gave Jessica a piece of her mind.

"Jackie was the best girlfriend ever," Melody says with a wistful sigh, "Is she single? Because according to basketball Twitter, she's dating some white man."

Jessica can't help the laugh that escapes her, "Mel what are you doing on basketball Twitter?"

"Having fun," Melody answers, "It's a fun place to be. People have the funniest takes. Like apparently you are the love child of A'ja and Kelsey.  You and Paige are secretly married oh and my all-time favorite, you were in a throuple gone wrong with Kate and Caitlin."

"Yeah, I'm gonna need you to go ahead and log out for me," Jessica says. 

"Never!" Melody exclaims, "You're in a throuple with Kate and Caitlin. Tell me who tops?"

"Oh my god shut up," Jessica says with a laugh, "Caitlin is getting married, and Kate has a girlfriend. And apparently, Paige and I are secretly married which is insane because we're just 20-something-year-old teenagers."

"Speaking of Ms. Bueckers, what's going on with you two?"

Jessica takes the phone and puts it on speaker as she mutes the TV, "I've honestly been avoiding her."
