Calm Down

As they walked back to the caves, Susan explained to y/n in a whispering voice what had happened. Caspian had wasted time by confronting Miraz. Despite the lost time, Peter had decided to go ahead with the plan. Now they were angry at each other and blamed each other for the defeat.

When they arrived at the cave, Lucy came running towards them along with the Narnian women and children. "What happened?"

Peter and Caspian, who had been walking at the front of the group with a lot of distance between them, looked at the youngest of the Pevensies. Then Peter nodded in Caspian's direction. "Ask him."

"Peter!", Susan said immediately warningly. But Caspian also felt like arguing. "Me? You could have stopped it, there was still time for that."

"No, it wasn't, thanks to you. And if you would have stuck to the plan, our soldiers might still be alive," Peter immediately replied loudly. Caspian didn't let that sit. "And if we had stayed here, as I suggested, then they would definitely still be alive."

Peter narrowed his eyes. "You called us, if I'm not mistaken."

"That was my first mistake," Caspian hissed. But Peter shook his head. "No. Your first was thinking you could lead those people."

When Peter now wanted to turn away, Caspian began to scream. "Hey! I am not the one who abandoned Narnia."

Y/n slapped her forehead with her palm in disbelief. This fight was unnecessary, it wouldn't change what had happened. But the two of them probably had to get rid of their frustration somehow. Now Peter raised an accusatory finger. "You have invaded Narnia. You have no right to rule it, neither has your uncle does."

Now Caspian started to storm away. But Peter wasn't finished yet. "You, him, or your father. Narnia would be better off if you weren't here."

Less than a second later, both Caspian and Peter had pulled out their swords. They held the blades to each other's throats.

"Why are boys like that?", y/n muttered and Susan just shrugged her shoulders helplessly. "I have no idea."

Then Peter's sister raised her voice and turned to those arguing. "Stop it!"

Now Edmund and some Narnians made their way forward. Glenstrom carried the still unconscious Trumpkin in his arms. Lucy immediately rushed over to them. But y/n didn't have time to follow what was happening. She saw Caspian disappearing into the cave. The gray-haired dwarf Nikabrik followed him.

"Sorry," y/n threw over her shoulder as she ran away from the others to follow Caspian.

"Are you out of your mind?", she shouted when she caught up with him. Her friend turned to her energetically. "Now suddenly you're defending him?"

"I'm not defending anyone," y/n shook her head. "But you can't make him angry. If he and his siblings leave, we'll have a problem."

"So you also think that I can't lead the Narnians!", Caspian replied accusingly. Y/n shook her head again. "No. I just think they're not yours to lead yet. You have to earn their trust and respect first. But we don't have time for that. So get along with Peter because he already has their trust and respect."

"I don't want to talk to him now," Caspian grumbled like a petulant child. Y/n sighed. "I get it... Maybe I could..."

Now Caspian even managed a small smile. "You're the best."

"You owe me one," y/n mumbled before she turned around and went to look for Peter. When she found him, Susan was already talking to him energetically.

"Am I interrupting?", y/n asked as she stepped closer. Susan shook her head. "No, I'm talking to a wall here anyway."

Then she turned and walked away in a huff. Y/n stood there a little hesitantly and looked at Peter. He sat on a hospital bed and pressed a bandage onto his right arm. He too had probably been wounded during the battle.

"What do you want?", Peter suddenly looked directly at her and the anger blazing in his eyes made y/n flinch. But then she pulled herself together. What she had to say was important. "He didn't mean it."

Peter knew immediately what she was talking about. "Yes, he did. And I did."

Y/n huffed. This wasn't going to be easy. "Then he is wrong, and you are too. But that's not the point. The point is it was not at all a mistake to call you."

Now Peter's look changed. Suddenly he seemed absent. "So many died because I led them."

Y/n shook her head. Somehow she felt sorry for him. Actually, he wasn't old enough to bear such great responsibilities. Not because he couldn't do it, but because it was a huge burden. "They chose to follow you. It was their free will to fight for the freedom of their country. The freedom of Narnia."

Now Peter looked surprised. "I'd never expected you to be like that."

Y/n laughed in surprise. She didn't really know what he was getting at. "Like what?"

Peter inclined his head meaningfully. "Well... Like that. Kind."

"Ah," y/m said, because she now understood. She smiled, although the memories were painful. "Well, my father thought me how to fight, he was more stubborn. But my mother was a much more intelligent woman. She used kindness to handle situations. In the end she was always more successful than my father."

"Then I have to correct myself," Peter then replied after looking at her silently for a moment. She raised her eyebrows questioningly. "About what?"

Peter shrugged his shoulders, somewhat embarrassed. "About the things I said to you when we first met."

Now y/n shook her head. "But you already acknowledged that I am a good fighter."

"Yes, but I thought you were a good fighter although you are a girl. Now I think you are one because you are a girl," Peter replied. That surprised her. It surprised her so much that she smiled broadly at him. "Thank you."

Peter returned the smile. "You're welcome."

They looked at each other like that for a while. Finally, y/n spoke up again. "Then I'll correct myself too. Although you cannot be my king."

"Because Caspian will be?", Peter gritted his teeth more than obviously as he said Caspian's name. Y/n rolled her eyes. "Exactly. But good for you that you are the High King."

When Peter answered now, there was not a bit of arrogance in his voice. Unusual. Or maybe she just had stupid prejudices. "I'd be honored to be that."

"As you should," y/n winked at him silly. But she was relieved that Peter seemed in a better mood now. It mad her hope that he and Caspian would soon get along again.
