Jughead Jones"MY PARENTS ARE UNBELIEVABLE JUG,"CLARY PACED BACK AND FORTH IN THE Blue and Gold room. "Polly is trapped in that house like a character out of Jane Eyre, and what are they doing? Changing each other's login accounts and throwing bricks through windows."
"I wish I'd seen that," I tried to lighten the mood with a joke, but Clary shot me a serious look. "Okay, I'm sorry. That's not funny."
"It's like, you know how in times of crisis, people either come together or fall apart?" Clary's voice trembled with emotion. "It feels like we're falling apart." Tears welled up in her eyes. "And the way things are going, pretty soon, the Coopers... we're not going to exist anymore. And there's nothing I can do to stop that."
"Clary, don't say that. Don't give up," I stood up, fully attentive.
"Your family is going through a rough patch right now, but it won't fall apart because of you. You're the glue holding them together. You're stronger than all this chaos, stronger than your mother, stronger than your father. You're keeping this family from falling apart," I reassured her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Clary took a deep breath, visibly moved by my words. "So don't. Don't let go," I continued, gently cupping her face in my hands.
"I won't," Clary whispered softly, her resolve firm. We embraced, finding solace in each other's presence, in a moment of shared understanding and support.
I sat in Clary's room, watching as she prepared for the Blossoms' banquet.
"Are you still sure you want to go?" I called out to her, a hint of concern in my voice.
"I owe Jason, Juggy," she replied with a sigh, stepping out in a maroon dress adorned with skinny straps and a plunging neckline.
"I know, but wouldn't you rather just go to the movies or something?" I suggested, hoping to sway her.
"I would," she chuckled softly, slipping into a pair of matching strappy heels, "just not tonight. Zip me up, please?" She turned her back to me, waiting for me to zip up her dress.
"What's your deal with Jason?" I asked curiously as I helped her with the zipper. She paused, adjusting her necklace thoughtfully.
"He was like my brother," she explained quietly, her voice tinged with emotion.
"So, just because you were close to Jason, you feel tied to the Blossoms forever?" I leaned against her desk, trying to understand.
"I like the Blossoms, Juggy," she confessed, brushing aside her hair. "Despite their obvious faults, they've never done anything wrong to me."
"They've practically held Polly hostage," I pointed out, trying to reason with her. She sighed, seeming conflicted.
"I don't... I don't know how to explain it. I've never felt connected to Betty and Polly the way I do to Cheryl, and once Jason..." She stepped closer to me, gently nudging my legs apart to stand between them. Her arms wrapped around my neck, drawing me closer.
