Gayathri's pov:
As a new day dawned, I woke up, but an overwhelming heaviness weighed on my heart. I missed Bava so much that it was unbearable. Even though we spoke on the phone regularly, the distance between us only made my longing grow stronger. Aaru and Preeti, my dear friends, did their best to cheer me up, their voices filled with concern and warmth. Yet, no matter how hard they tried, I couldn’t shake off this deep ache in my heart. Their words floated around me, but I wasn’t really listening, lost in the sorrow of missing him.
Suddenly, my phone rang. Bava’s name flashed on the screen, and the moment I saw it, tears welled up in my eyes. Without thinking, I picked up the call, my voice breaking as I said, "Hello, Bava…"
The panic in his voice was immediate. "What happened, nanna? Did anyone say something? Are you hurt? Tell me what’s wrong," he fired off questions in rapid succession, his concern evident.
Before he could go on, I interrupted, my sobs making it hard to speak. "I miss you, Bava," I whispered, my voice trembling.
There was a pause on the other end, and then, to my shock, he abruptly cut the call. I stared at my phone, bewildered, the tears flowing freely now. Why would he do that? My thoughts raced as the sadness deepened. Aaru and Preeti, sensing my distress, rushed to my side, their faces etched with worry. "Why are you crying more now? What happened?" they asked in unison.
"Bava… he cut the call," I choked out, the words barely audible as I cried even harder.
A few minutes later, my phone rang again. It was Bava. I picked up the call, my voice raw with emotion. "Why did you cut the call?" I yelled, the hurt clear in my tone.
He sighed on the other end, his voice calming as he said, "Come downstairs, ma. I’m here."
The words took a moment to sink in, but when they did, I sprang to my feet, my heart racing. I rushed to the balcony, and there he was, standing below. Without a second thought, I sprinted downstairs, my feet barely touching the ground. As soon as I saw him, I ran into his arms, jumping onto him, and he caught me, holding me tight.
"I missed you too, nanna," he murmured against my hair.
Tears of relief spilled down my cheeks as I looked up at him, and without thinking, I kissed his cheek. I knew the other hostel girls were watching us, but I didn’t care. He was my husband, and that was all that mattered.
"Let’s go to our home," he said gently, and I nodded like a child, eager to be with him. He placed me tenderly in the car seat before getting in himself, and we drove to the mansion.
As soon as we reached, Bava locked the door behind us and began showering me with kisses. I giggled, hugging him tightly, but the longing I had felt for days made me cling to him even more. "I missed you a lot," I said, making a little puppy face.
He cupped my face, placing a soft kiss on my lips. "I missed you too, nanna," he said, his voice warm, "but we have to endure it."
His words made something snap inside me. I pulled away, upset, and sat down on the sofa with a sulking face. Why couldn’t he understand that I wanted to be with him all the time? Tears of frustration began to form again, and I turned my face away from him, refusing to let him see how deeply his words had hurt me.
Bava came over and sat beside me, his voice laced with regret. "I’m sorry, nanna. Please, look at me," he pleaded.
I stubbornly turned my face in the opposite direction. "No," I muttered, feeling a surge of childish defiance.
"Sorry, bangaram," he said again, his tone softening, but I wasn’t ready to forgive him that easily.
He then did something unexpected. He pulled me onto his lap, his arms wrapping around my waist. Even then, I didn’t look at him, refusing to give in. But when he tightened his grip, I hit his hand hard, causing him to yelp in surprise. "Ahh!" he cried out, and I finally looked at him with a glare, only to turn away again.
