Mayhem was founded in 1984 by the owner of the band Øystein Aarseth, the guitarist. He chose the stage name Destructer but later changed it to Euronymous. Kjetil Manheim and Jørn Stubberud joined the band later, Jørn being bassist and choosing the stage name Necrobutcher. Kjetil being the drummer, and just going by Manheim. Euronymous was originally going to be the vocalist and guitarist but later hired Sven Erik Kristiansen as the first vocalist. Sven going by the name Maniac. Mayhem released their Deathcrush LP in 1987.
