The receding hues of daylight had been shed beneath the roaring mansion of Sadie Winters. The house pulsed with the relentless beat of music and a whirlwind of slashing lights, spilled drinks, and teenage hormones as bodies danced and wandered aimlessly about. Students of Royal Woods high, barely unified by the promise of free drinks, were drowning each other out with hollers, laughter, and the occasional bursts of drunken singing.

An assortment of empty bottles and red Solo cups, alongside hordes of bodies assembled to either take shots at the kitchen counter, drape over furniture, or lean against walls, and the air was thick with the mingling scents of cheap vodka, sweat, and the faint sweetness of forgotten perfume.

Vienna and Tatum had curled up in the midst of the night in a seated circle alongside several guys and girls from their grade in addition to the cheer team.

They sat cross legged, eyes bloodshot from the alcohol they'd consumed, Vienna presumably the only sober one there. In the heart of it all lay a vacant bottle of Malibu, its golden contents merely a memory, glinting slightly in the flickering lights.

As one of the girls stood poised to spin the bottle, the group's energy crackled, with every spin denoting a twist of fate and forbidden thrill. With a feverish anticipation of reckless abandon, the night held its breath.

The bottle whirled idly on the floor, its path followed by the wide-eyed stares of the circle until it came to a halt, its neck pointing none other than at Vienna. A collective silence fell over the group, anticipation heavy in the air.

Vienna scoffed, "Well, shit."

"Truth or dare?"

"Dare," The blonde dithered before replying, her tone edged with impatience. Lacey King, another cheerleader with a reputation for blacking out at every party, leaned forward, her deep sapphire eyes gleaming with a sinister intent.

The red solo cup in her hand seemed almost menacing as she extended it toward Vienna. "I dare you to down this."

Vienna accepted the cup, lifting it cautiously to her nose. The sharp, nauseating odor hit her like a wave and she gagged and recoiled in disgust,
"What the fuck is in this?!"

Lacey's lips curled into a sly grin. "Titos, Jack Daniel's, Smirnoff; a little bit of everything, nobody's really sure," she slurred. The group's tension mounted as Vienna stared into the murky liquid, her features twisted in revulsion.
