The world was healing. Slowly but surely. Scars remained, both the physical ones and the emotional ones, but there was a sense of determination. A determination to rebuild and restore.Bible, thankfully recovered, had returned to his studies. The short break he had been forced with the rest of the world into had forced him to confront just how superficially he had lived before the pandemic. He was a changed man. I mean, nobody will tell be a grown man can change completely so easily. But he was a slightly changed man. He was a lot more grounded and more aware of just how easily he could die and how fragile his existence was.
Jes, on the other hand, had gone back to his daily routine. Throwing himself into his work. The hospital, a battleground just a few months ago, was now a place of back to its usual calm. Well as calm as it could get honestly.
But as I said, scars. The weight of the past was heavy on Jes' shoulders. The loss of countless lives haunted him, the memory of those dark days his constant companion.
The distance between them grew. Their shared ordeal had forged a sort of bond, but the aftermath of the crisis was a sort of test to its strength.
Bible was eager to return to his normal life, to escape the shadow of the pandemic. Jes who was trapped in the world of medicine was struggling to move on.
Their interactions became infrequent, polite but distant. Then less frequent . The camaraderie they had once shared was replaced by a polite formality. Then by distance. It was as if they were strangers, occupying a close space but existing in totally different worlds.
Bible sought solace in his studies, in the company of his friends, and in his quiet moments of reflection. He was trying to building a new life. A life that was free from the shadows of the past pandemic. He missed the intensity though. The intensity of their shared mission and the unwavering support of his newfound friend.
Meanwhile, Jes, was haunted by the ghosts of the past. Every patient he saw constantly reminded him of the countless other lives he has lost. Every victory was shadowed by the memories of defeat. He became a shadow of his former self. Became a man consumed both by guilt and by regret.
Their individual lives were drifting apart. Their paths leading them in apparently opposite directions.

What could possibly go wrong?
A car accident!
A random act of violence brought them crashing back together.
Bas was involved in a accident and rushed to the hospital.
Bible took the news like he had been hit by a ton of bricks. He was transported right back to the pandemic days, to the all the losses he had had to endure. How had he not foreseen this???
Bas was brought to Jes' hospital, his life hanging literally by a thread. It was a surreal experience for both of them. It was like they were right back in the same world, fighting for life, but the circumstances were very different.
As they stood by Bas's bedside, Jes as the doctor, Bible simply devastated, old wounds were reopened, but so too was the bond that had once held them together.
In this shared moment of crisis, Bible sort solace in Jes' presence.
