Soaring through a clear blue sky, Raya used the air currents to her advantage. The wind slid across her great feathers as she banked through an updraft to gain altitude in search of a stronger tailwind. Ahead, a city spread in front of her before her eyes, a sea of gray and yellow textures.
She had managed to slip through the protection dome of Imperium by waiting for a small group of Elemental Masters to distract the guards and Raya had managed to slip into the city without getting spotted by anyone. She heard about an uprising against the Empress Beatrix from the Ninja Team and the rescued Dragons. Raya had overheard those rumors at the Crossroads and decided to check it out to save a dragon friend of hers... and she had found a fight happening on the steps of the palace.
With a screeching cry, Raya pulled her wings to her sides and dived while glowing a bright purple. As Raya landed onto the ground, she transformed back into her human form and had caused a bright shockwave. The shockwave had caused the guards and the Photac to be sent flying backwards from the recently freed dragons and the five Ninja.
Lloyd's breath was hitched in his throat when he and her briefly locked eyes. Lloyd had seen many girls, but not like her; the others were quick to judge him for his past mishaps and playing with his heart. This girl was definitely attractive, but unlike some he had came across, she wasn't jumping to any sudden conclusions immediately. Her gaze was... very distracting, like pools of pure water. Lloyd felt something pounding in chest as he continue to watch her the same way that he did when he first met his first crush on Harumi. But he was scared. What if the same thing happened again?
Raya soon locked eyes with Lloyd Garmadon, the Green Ninja, the Master of Energy. Raya has to admit that Lloyd is especially handsome to her eyes. He seemed tall and slim, but has hidden strength. He has a suave look with a lengthier and wild style in his light blonde hair and beautiful bright green eyes that shone with the warmth of a protector. Something about him made Raya drawn to him and stand by his side.
"I'm on your side Ninja!" Raya yelled to him and Wyldfyre. "And I am Raya!"
That's when Empress Beatrix had made her appearance on her mech. She looked downright angry at the sight of the Ninja and the Elemental Masters fighting alongside with the originally captured dragons. "What are you waiting for? Get them!"
"Uh, didn't you come here to stop the Photacs?" Kai pointed out. "'Cause now there's a lot more!"
"Yeah, quick update," admitted Lloyd. "Fight the beasts, help the dragons. Oh, and the wild kid and the Owl Formling is on our side."
"What wild kid?" Kai asked him incredulously.
With a dragon-like growl, Wyldfyre had made her appearance and started making a firewall between them and the guards with her fiery Elemental Power.
"Is she doing Fire?" exclaimed Kai, startled and annoyed. "Uh, she can't do Fire. Fire's my thing!" At that, Kai joined Wyldfyre to add his Elemental Power to the firewall. They started fighting against the Photacs, but it's hard to fight against such items.
"Whoa, these beasts are tough," said Nya observantly.
"What is that thing?" Lloyd glanced at the temple behind them.
"When I interfaced with it, it self-identified as the 'Monastery of Imperium'," admitted Zane. "It shares similarities with our own Monastery of Spinjitzu." He glanced at Raya curiously. "Are you on our side or theirs?"
"Yours," replied Raya.
After using her Spinjitzu, Nya appeared near Lloyd. "Any tips you're not sharing on how to bust these things up?"
"That's not going to be easy to explain," admitted Raya.
"You can't." Lloyd shrugged helplessly. "They're indestructible."
"Oh. That's an important detail," Nya remarked sarcastically. "You were gonna mention that when?"
"We're buying time," said Raya quickly. "Sora and Arin still have a plan, I think."
Wyldfyre quickly created a Heat wall to block the Photac Beasts while Kai used his Fire to attack. Diana wasn't sure what Wyldfyre had said to Kai, but she had somewhat insulted him.
Kai turned to look at Lloyd. "There can't be two Elemental Masters of Fire at the same time. It's impossible. Also, it's rude."
"I can't make sense of it either, which is pretty much how everything's been going for me lately," admitted Lloyd.
Zane quickly created an ice wall around them. "I have calculated our odds of winning this battle."
"Oh, fun," Kai remarked sarcastically. "I'm guessing they're pretty solid."
"Retreat is our only option," admitted Zane.
"Retreat to where?" Lloyd spoke up. "We're trapped in the middle of Imperium."
"The second monastery." They all turned to look at the second monastery. "Its fortified walls will keep the Photacs out. At least temporarily."
"No retreat!" Wyldfyre yelled fiercely. "No surrender!"
"The impossible kid's right," admitted Kai. "We're in this fight, so let's fight."
"I still can't raise Arin and Sora on the comms, and our only hope is to give them time for their plan," Lloyd told them. "Barricading ourselves in the monastery could buy us that time."
"It's our only shot!" said Raya determinedly.
Wyldfyre groaned. "Fine. Let's do your cowardly plan." She ran over to Heatwave and yelled, communicating with him. "Dragons attack!" They started attacking the Claws of Imperium.
"That's not our plan Wyldfyre!" Raya yelled out to her.
"I know, I improved on it!" Wyldfyre yelled back to her. "Dragons, go!" This time they actually went into the second monastery.
The group followed them. "Oh no, you don't." She faintly heard Rapton yelled to them. Raya looked out the door, a missile was coming towards them. The door slide close so it didn't hit the group.
"Try contacting Arin and Sora," Raya told Lloyd.
"Right. Sora? Arin? Hello? Anyone?" Lloyd looked worried about his two students. "It looks like their comms are still down."
They soon heard a loud rumbling sound as something hit the doors. All of the dragons roared and growled, wary of the danger ahead and yet they trusted the humans that had rescued them.
"Or something worse," Nya admitted.
"Not helping," said Raya.
"I didn't like running away anyway," said Wyldfyre grumpily.
"Hard agree," Kai agreed.
They both used their fiery powers and high-five each other. "We could fight the Empress all day, but these dragons can't get caught in the crossfire."
"I get you two are close and all, but why is it important for her not to fight?" Wyldfyre asked.
"Because she can use magic. If they find out about that it can be bad news," admitted Lloyd protectively. "Plus, we need Sora to shut down the Photacs."
"Or we could get the Dragons and Diana out of here." Nya pointed to the door on the other side of the room. "That portal is how Kai and I got here. If we could activate it again, we could send all the dragons and Raya to safety."
"I'm not leaving without you guys," said Raya fiercely.
"I know, but it's a good idea," said Lloyd. "Would that work Nya?"
"This gate appears to be linked to our Monastery. But it is designed for smaller transports. Based on power readings, it could not handle the power of this many dragons along with Raya," Zane informed them.
"Can we increase the power of that Portal Gate?" Lloyd asked him.
"It would need to be extraordinarily large increase," Zane told him.
"We're right outside the palace. I bet there's something in there that could power up the gate," Nya said.
"I do detect a tremendous energy source," Zane admitted honestly. "It is not coming from inside the palace. It is beneath us. I have never seen such a singular reserve of energy."
"It's probably a giant battery that runs this whole kingdom," said Lloyd.
"Whatever you're gonna do, do it now," Kai pointed out. "These things are gonna break through any minute."
Raya knew that Kai was right about that, but just in case... She'll join Lloyd's side and see what type of "battery" this was.
"If this weird version of a monastery is anything like our home, then under these floor plates..." At that, everyone watched as Lloyd started hopping across the floor. "Should be an old obstacle — Ah!" He soon fell down a flight of hidden stairs.
Raya exchanged a startled and yet worried glance with Kai. "Are you okay, Lloyd?!"
"Don't worry, I'm fine!" Lloyd called out. "And I found a way out! Come on, Zane!" At that, Zane ran down the staircase.
"And I'm coming too!" Raya quickly followed Zane and Lloyd down the staircase.
"Raya? You followed?" Lloyd smiled softly at the sight of Raya.
"If Imperium breaks in while you're down here, I rather be with you," Raya told him honestly.
"Fair enough you have more reason than most. Come on." Lloyd led them to a vent and they jumped through it and down a passage way. They soon saw another vent was glowing with a bright orange light. "That's got to be the power source up there." Lloyd started to climb down from the ladder.
"Affirmative," Zane told them.
They entered a room where the light got brighter as they entered the room. "What is that?" They walked closer to the bright source of light, or the huge ball of energy as they called it. "This place... I feel strange."
"This sphere itself is not the Energy Source," whispered Lloyd.
"It's not?" Raya asked.
"No, but my scans indicate the immense power is inside of it," Zane informed them.
Lloyd took a closer look and Raya stepped closer as well. "Is that... A dragon?" Raya didn't recognize the dragon kind who towered over ordinary dragons in terms of sheer size and height, easily casting a massive shadow through the orange ball of energy. She couldn't make out the dragon's coloration, but she could make out his figure watching the three of them from his prison.
"I believe that if it is, it is larger than any dragon previously recorded," explained Zane. "These machines are how they are attempting to drain this dragon's power."
Raya gasped. "That's horrible."
"I thought we freed all the dragons," Lloyd said, confused. "I had no idea that Imperium imprisoned something like this."
"I don't think anyone did," Raya told him.
"We have to get this dragon free." Lloyd told them. Raya nodded in agreement.
"If we do, I am uncertain how we will get it and the other dragons along with Raya out of Imperium," admitted Zane.
"I don't need to flee with them," Raya said fiercely. "Can't we just focus on getting them out?"
"Well, yes, but I still want you to be safe," Lloyd admitted to her, his green eyes meeting hers.
"And I will be," said Raya. "If all of us get out of here together."
"There is another problem," Zane told them. "We do not have the power source we need."
"We're Ninja, we'll find a way," Lloyd said confidently. "This dragon is coming with us. Let's see if we can unlock this thing." Zane pressed a button and they got up closer to the trapped dragon.
"Do not free me." A deep and yet strong voice came from the trapped dragon.
"What the—?" Raya stepped back warily and glanced at Lloyd. "Did he just... speak to us?"
"The dragon appears to me speaking telepathically," Zane noted.
"Yeah, some of them do that. You get used to it." Lloyd looked back at the dragon. "You're imprisoned. We can help you."
"The capture of a Source Dragon is not a simple process," said the dragon. "In their act of confining me, the Imperium has threatened the very fabric of existence. The realm world has tentatively stabilized since my capture. To free me now, at this moment, could destabilize it once again and result in total destruction."
"But, we can't just leave you here," Lloyd told the dragon.
"Can you not comprehend the damage that would do to your world?"
"He appears determined not to be freed," Zane said, stating the obvious.
"Yeah, I'm getting that feeling too," stated Lloyd. "And without a power source, we can't get the other dragons out of Imperium either."
"As an Elemental Master, you have contained and transfered dragon power before."
"You've missed a lot," Lloyd said to Zane and Raya before turning to look at the dragon. "How do you know that?"
"I am a Source Dragon." His reply almost caused Raya to give herself whiplash. A Source Dragon?! She thought Source Dragon were myths from her father's stories! How's this possible?
"Yeah, sorry, we, uh, haven't heard of you before," Lloyd told him sheepishly.
"I heard stories about you through my father," spoke up Raya boldly. "But I wasn't sure if you were real or not."
"I have enough power in a single claw to shatter Imperium into pieces," said the Source Dragon. "But mystically imprisoned, I can do not such thing. However, Elemental Master, I can give you power to act as my conduit."
"Like I did with the Matriarch Dragon?" Lloyd asked. "Then I could power up the portal and free the other dragons."
"But taking my power is dangerous," warned the Source Dragon. "Your life may change forever."
Knowing Lloyd, he'll take the risk. If his glance towards Zane didn't confirm that without him saying anything. Raya didn't know what did. "If it will save those dragons, then that's a risk I'm willing to take."
"And that is exactly why you are capable of being a conduit. Approach the sphere."
He stepped closer to the sphere and Raya could see power flow into him. But she didn't know how she felt about it. Lloyd was in the air glowing and started to go back the way they came in here. Zane and Raya both ran after him up to the staircase.
The first thing Raya heard when they returned to the others was Wyldfyre's startled question when she spotted Lloyd. "Could he always do that?"
"Not that I'm aware of," Kai told her.
Lloyd blasted the portal's gem, it opened the portal and the dragons, including Wyldfyre and Heatwave, went through it. Lloyd suddenly stopped glowing and fell. "Lloyd!" Zane caught him carefully when they suddenly heard a rumble Rapton came in on a Photac with the others close behind him.
"Where are they?" He yelled at them. "Where are the dragons?"
"Dragons?" Kai asked, deciding to play dumb. "I don't see any dragons. Huh! You must have the wrong place."
"We will crush you!" Rapton threatened. "Claws of Imperium, tear the Ninja apart— Whoa! Ah!" he yelled as the Photac beneath him twitched.
"What the...?" Nya asked.
"I think they got Riyu back," said Raya.
Right as Sora, Arin, and Riyu came in Rapton fell to the ground as his Photac disappeared. "Oh, not the face!" Sora stepped on his back over to them. "Oh, not my back!"
"Where are all the dragons?" Arin asked.
"They went that way." Nya pointed to the portal. "Where we should head right now!" Without another word, they each ran into the portal.
"No one escapes from Rapton!" Raya heard him yell. The portal closed right as Arin got through and they heard a loud bump from the door.Once the Ninja and the Elemental Masters had each built up a Dragon Stables for the rescued dragons. The dragons had decided to live with the team and help out on their missions. Wyldfyre was cuddling with Heatwave while Sora and Arin were checking up on Dragon Sora and Riyu. Zane was gently petting the Ice Dragon (Zane named him Winter) and was giving him a bucket of water. Raya was being cuddled by a gemlike azure and purple highlighted Magic Dragon (she named her Estrella). The Mountain Dragon (Raya named him Protector) was purring as he slept. Kai chuckled softly as the Fire Dragon (he named her Blaze) lifted him up with her snout and placed him back onto the ground playfully. The Earth Dragon (Raya named him Boulder) was given some meat by Zane. Nya could be seen petting an energetic Lightning Dragon, whose name is Jiro.
Raya smiled at the friendly interaction between them and the dragons as she started to leave the stables to check on Lloyd. She smiled at the familiarity of the Monastery of Spinjitzu as she returned to the place of peace. Raya knows that dragons and humans are both different species, but it doesn't mean that they can't feel the same things as they do. The seven dragons understood that the Ninja are their allies and friends, while the Ninja feels the same towards the seven dragons.
As she looked around, Raya soon found Lloyd's bedroom in the Monastery. She smiled softly when she saw him resting on his bed, his expression was calm and peaceful as he slept on his bed quietly. Raya watched as Lloyd's chest moved to a soothing rhythm, watching out for any changes in case a sudden nightmare popped on. The young man's face twitched a couple of times, but otherwise remained peaceful. Raya then noticed a picture next to the window, she smiled softly at the sight of the framed picture that has the Ninja Team. Curious, she could see a certain pair of siblings standing next to Lloyd and a blue clad Ninja (probably Jay Walker, the Blue Ninja), Cole was standing by Kai's other shoulder and Jay's side while Zane was hugging Pixal (Raya saw a picture of her and asked Zane about her) from behind her near Cole's side. Lloyd was standing in the midst of his Ninja Siblings with a bright smile.
Her eyes softened, understanding how guilty and lonely Lloyd was after his family's separation during the Merge Incident. Without a word, Raya's fingers gently stroked Lloyd's messy light blonde hair as if he was cat. She soon felt him sleepily lean into her touch. When she was about to redraw her hand from him, Lloyd whined at Raya's withdrawing fingers and struggled to lean into her touch again. She chuckled at the adorable sight. Raya's fingers gently returned into stroking Lloyd's messy light blonde hair. Once he was fully asleep, she quietly walked out of his bedroom and returned to hers.
By the next morning, Raya had finished reading one of her books and saw the gathered Ninja. She smiled at the sight of Lloyd, who was smiling and talking amongst his friends. Lloyd's expression brightened when he saw her. "Raya!"
She smiled warmly at her gathered friends. Raya looked up at the Green Ninja, studying his face just as she had the first time they met. Lloyd's hair was a mess from all the rest he had. "Thank you all, for everything." Raya clung onto the boy with a smile. Lloyd wasn't expecting the hug, but he felt himself soften as he wrapped his arms around Raya.
"You really had me worried you know," Lloyd stated as the two of them remained in their embrace.
"You were here to save me though, just like before." Raya continued to rest her head against the Energy Ninja's chest, listening to the soothing sound of his heartbeat. While everyone else smiled at the duo, even the newer Ninja could tell that they are going to be an interesting pair.
