Becoming Who You Are for Where You're Going

When you pack for a trip, you (hopefully) prepare. You check the weather, you pack appropriate clothes, you figure out where you need to be at what time. In essence, you are reviewing what needs to be done beforehand so you are able to enjoy yourself when you get there.

If we do this for trips, why don't we do this for life? If you're someone who feels worried about making a big leap – prepare. Do you research from where you are. Study the area you want to move to. Locate the nearest grocery store and where you need to go buy dog food when you've run out. Review your future life like you are studying a test and to the best of your abilities, do the prep work required early. When you do so, the arrival into your new life will be a smooth landing, not a crash one.

Do not only prepare for the external, but prepare your soul as well. Take time to imagine who you are in your new life and begin practicing becoming that version of yourself. Are you more gentle and graceful in your new life? Do you feel more empowered and authoritative? Do you enter a room and people are in awe of your arrival? When you begin carrying yourself in a manner that already exists in future you, you are setting the tone for success. You are essentially saying to the universe that you have prepared for this opportunity and you are ready at any moment for it to arrive.

When we jump into a new life without preparation, we can be caught off guard by the obstacles we are required to conquer. We can feel shaky and unsteady as though we've messed up somewhere along the way. You may be in the right place, but in the wrong frame of mind. By preparing for the test you haven't taken yet, you are reassuring present and future you that you can in fact handle anything coming your way. You have done all you can to be ready and when the moment comes and shift into the new you, you will feel calm, cool and collected.
