I keep moving forward, the sword gripped tightly in my hand, my senses on high alert. This was not a joke after all.... each mistep would cost me my life for sure. It was just something in my guts screaming at me to get the hell out of here and the standing up hairs on my arm were not saying anything against that either.
The air is thick with the smell of dust and metal, and every sound seems amplified in the narrow corridors—my footsteps, the distant echoes, the rustle of something... skittering?....wait! SKITTERING?!!!!!!
Please tell me that's just my imagination.
But of course, it's not.
As if it could be!!!!
Out of the corner of my eye, I see movement—fast, darting shadows along the walls. Then they emerge into the dim light, and I stop dead in my tracks.
Huge scorpions...no not spiders... but stingy little bastards which were not even little.... but nonetheless deadly.... maybe even more now...., each the size of a small car, crawling out from cracks in the walls, their armored bodies gleaming like polished steel. Their pincers snap menacingly, and their tails, armed with stingers as long as my arm, twitch with deadly anticipation.
Me: Oh, come on! Seriously? Giant armored scorpions? What is this, some kind of twisted game of 'Let's see how many times we can try to kill Percy today?'
The scorpions don't seem interested in answering my rhetorical question. Instead, they close in, their legs clacking against the stone floor as they surround me, pincers snapping.
Sword versus scorpions.
What's the worst that could happen?
I slash at the nearest scorpion, aiming for its eyes, but the blade skids off its armored shell with a shower of sparks. The scorpion recoils, more annoyed than injured, and I barely dodge out of the way as its tail lashes out, the stinger embedding itself in the stone wall where my head was a second ago.
Great.....
So they're not only armored, but they're fast. ...and what's with this ridiculous strength?!
.
.
.
.
Awesome.
Just awesome.
Who's idea is this shit anyways?!
I pivot and take off running, the scorpions hot on my heels. I zigzag through the labyrinth, hoping to lose them in the twisting corridors, but every turn seems to bring more of the nasty things out of the walls.
WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY COMING FROM?!!!!!
.
.
.
.
Who knew this place was such a hotbed for mutant insect breeding?
HAHA
Jokes one me....
At least this makes it a bit less.... scary.... gosh if I would stop joking around, I would be in serious trouble.
As if the scorpions weren't enough, the ground starts to rumble beneath my feet, and I hear a deep, mechanical roar echoing through the labyrinth. I glance over my shoulder just in time to see something massive charging down the corridor behind me—a mechanical bull, its eyes glowing red, steam pouring from its nostrils.
Me: Oh, come on! This isn't even fair anymore!!!!!
As if it was before....
The bull barrels toward me, its metal hooves sparking against the stone floor, and I dive out of the way just in time. The scorpions scatter as the bull crashes into them, but they're quickly replaced by more creatures crawling out of the labyrinth's walls—snakes with fangs like daggers, spiders with legs as sharp as spears, and more monsters that I don't even want to identify.
Okay, running seems like a solid plan.
Let's stick with that!
RUN!
FUCK!
RUN!
FASTER!
I sprint through the labyrinth, dodging scorpion tails, mechanical horns, and snapping jaws. The labyrinth itself seems to be shifting around me, the walls closing in one moment, opening up the next, leading me deeper into the maze.
Wait a minute...
it's almost like...
it's trying to help me?
Is it?
Or is it forcing me to go into one destination?
Why do I feel like I am being forced and lead somewhere?!
Oh no...
Is this the silver tablet?
I don't have time to dwell on that thought because the ground suddenly drops out from under me, and I tumble down a steep, dark slope. I land hard, the wind knocked out of me, but I scramble to my feet, sword still in hand.
The scorpions are nowhere to be seen, and the bull's mechanical roars have faded into the distance. I'm in a new part of the labyrinth now, the walls taller, the shadows deeper, and the air filled with an eerie silence.
Okay, so the labyrinth wants me alive?
That's... comforting?
Or not.....
Did I proof myself or was this just some appetiser before the real meal?
I start to catch my breath when the silence is shattered by a sound that sends a chill down my spine—a scream. Not the roar of a monster, but a human scream, filled with pain and terror.
What the...?
I freeze, the scream echoing in my ears, my heart pounding. It was almost escaping and breaking through my chest how much it was pounding. I could hear my own heart beat and yet for more than a minute it was nothing but that sound coming from my own heart.
Someone else is in here, and they're in trouble. Before I can even think about what to do next, I hear the scream again, closer this time, and it's clear—I'm not alone in this deadly game.
Great.
Just when I thought this couldn't get any worse.
And then, just like that, the scream is cut off, leaving me standing alone in the darkness, my sword clenched tightly in my hand, every nerve on edge.
