As the day wore on, Neslihan found herself feeling more unsettled. The house was quiet, yet her mind hummed with fragments of all the events that had happened in the last few weeks. She'd tried to focus on her work, but Güven's tension from that morning lingered in her thoughts, and the mysteries around her mother and her burning house left her feeling trapped in a web of secrets.
That afternoon, Neslihan received a message from an old friend, one of her colleagues from medical school, inviting her for coffee to catch up. It seemed like a welcome distraction. She dressed in a soft blue blouse and comfortable jeans, appreciating the chance to escape the confines of recent events, even if just for an hour or two.
As she sipped her coffee and laughed at her friend's stories, a calmness settled over her. For the first time in days, she felt like herself again, away from the shadows of rivalry and suspicion. But that peace shattered abruptly when she caught sight of Güven standing outside the café, his gaze locked on her with a look that was anything but friendly.
Before she could react, Güven stormed inside, his expression thunderous. His steps were swift and tense, drawing the attention of other patrons as he approached their table. Neslihan's friend looked from Güven to her, confused and slightly alarmed.
Without a word, Güven's hand closed around Neslihan's wrist, pulling her to her feet. "We're leaving," he said, his voice low but laced with an unmistakable command. Neslihan tried to protest, but his grip tightened as he steered her towards the door.
"Güven, stop! You're overreacting," she whispered sharply, embarrassed by the scene he was creating.
He didn't listen. As soon as they were outside, he turned to her, his eyes blazing. "What were you thinking, meeting him alone? You don't even know who you can trust right now, and you're out here having coffee with a guy?"
Neslihan's frustration boiled over. "He's a friend! You're acting ridiculous. I needed to get out, to feel normal for a while!"
He let go of her wrist, but his gaze remained intense, jealousy and frustration swirling in his expression. "Normal? Nothing about our situation is normal, Neslihan. Don't you understand that?"
The tension hung between them, thick and unresolved, each unwilling to let their guard down, yet both feeling the weight of how deeply they were affected by one another's actions.
That evening, Güven returned home, still bristling with the remnants of their earlier argument. He walked into the living room and stopped short. Neslihan stood by the mirror, adjusting her earrings, dressed in an elegant black dress that hugged her figure perfectly. She looked up, meeting his gaze through the reflection, her expression a mixture of guarded calm and something more hopeful.
"You're going somewhere?" he asked, trying to keep his tone neutral, though he couldn't help but admire how effortlessly she carried herself.
Neslihan turned to face him, her eyes thoughtful. "Yes, there's an opening of a new art gallery tonight. I thought it might be a good escape... if you'd like to come."
He hesitated, surprised by her invitation. "You want me to join you?" His voice softened, as if unsure she truly meant it.
A small smile played on her lips, barely visible. "Yes, Güven. I'd like it if you were there. It's just an event, but..." She paused, her eyes skimming over him with a hint of vulnerability. "I think we both could use the distraction."
For a moment, they looked at each other in quiet understanding, both realizing the significance of this small step. After a moment, Güven nodded. "Alright. I'll come with you."
They arrived at the gallery, where soft music played, and patrons moved about, admiring the artwork. The spacious room was filled with polished individuals in designer attire, holding glasses of wine as they discussed the art pieces around them. Güven stayed close to Neslihan, feeling an odd sense of pride—and possessiveness—watching her glide through the room with such ease. He'd forgotten how natural she seemed in settings like this, her confidence captivating as she engaged effortlessly in conversation.
