Dylan
It had been exactly seven days since Mrs. Go caught sight of EJ and Dylan holding hands inside the Harbor View Mall. Dylan, feeling the burden of Mrs. Go's potential knowledge, avoided her any chance he got, fearful of the implications that she might hang over his head if they ever come across each other again.
So, in the last few days, he had been on the verge of hiding. He wanted to confide once more in Mr. De Guzman about what he was going through but he knew that he couldn't do that anymore. He made a promise to EJ that he would not talk about their relationship with anyone from school as it could lead to a serious catastrophe if people found out about their relationship. Even if it hurt to hear that, he knew that it was the right thing to do at that moment.
Today, both Dylan and EJ decided to spend the day in Dylan's house after his shift at Mr. Freeze, watching movies all night. EJ's parents are away on a business trip to Morocco, while Dylan's parents had to go back to Albay to visit relatives they hadn't seen in over a year. They allowed EJ to stay the night as long as they didn't engage in inappropriate activities—whatever those activities may be.
"Which movie do you want to watch?" Dylan asked, checking the DVDs that EJ brought from his house. EJ took a seat next to Dylan, their knees touching.
Dylan felt a jolt from the slight touch and smiled at EJ, who grinned back at him.
"How about a romantic comedy?" EJ suggested, his eyes twinkling with anticipation.
Dylan's face lit up with a smile.
"Sounds perfect. I've been in the mood for something light and fun." He found the DVD EJ had mentioned and slid it into the player. As the opening credits began, Dylan made sure they were comfortable by adjusting the pillows and blankets around them.
The soft glow of the TV illuminated their faces, casting a warm and inviting light in the dim room. EJ snuggled closer, his shoulder gently resting against Dylan's, the lovely smell of EJ's soft powder smelling perfume greeting his nose.
"I love these kinds of movies," EJ said, his voice carrying a hint of nostalgia. "They always make me feel better."
Dylan nodded in agreement. "Me too. They're like a little escape from everything." His feet touched EJ's under the blanket.
"Dylan," EJ whispered softly into his boyfriend's ear, his breath warm against Dylan's skin.
"What's up?" Dylan asked, his voice low and intimate.
EJ's eyes searched Dylan's, his gaze soft yet intense. "I just wanted to tell you how much this means to me. These moments with you, like tonight, they're everything."
Dylan's heart raced at the sincerity in EJ's voice. He reached up, brushing a stray lock of hair from EJ's face, his fingers lingering for a moment longer than necessary. "I feel the same way," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "These moments with you take away all of the fears that I have."
EJ
EJ woke up next to Dylan, the soft glow of the moon casting gentle shadows across their faces. He squinted at his watch on the nightstand and realized it was already ten-thirty in the evening. His gaze shifted to Dylan's serene, sleeping figure beside him.
A small smile crept onto his lips as he took in the peaceful sight. There was something profoundly calming about Dylan's presence—the way his chest rose and fell with each breath, the way his hair was tousled just so.
In that moment, EJ let his imagination run wild. He envisioned waking up next to Dylan every morning for the rest of his life. He pictured the two of them in their own cozy kitchen, the smell of freshly brewed coffee mixing with the aroma of sizzling the breakfast that they are cooking together. He imagined the warmth of their own home, filled with laughter and love. Maybe someday, they'd adopt a child together, create a family, and build a life that felt like a beautiful dream turned into reality.
He knew these were grand, perhaps naive, dreams for a fifteen-year-old because the reality was, he was still figuring out who he was and how to navigate his relationship with Dylan amidst the expectations and pressures from everyone around him. The thought of being disowned was a heavy weight on his heart. But despite the challenges, the thought of a future with Dylan made everything feel worthwhile.
As EJ contemplated their future, he couldn't ignore the uncertainty that would eventually make its presence known. The fear of exposure, of coming out before he was ready, was constant.
Yet, lying there next to Dylan, all those worries seemed to blur into the background. He gently leaned closer, his heart swelling with affection as he gazed at Dylan's tranquil face. With the softest of touches, he pressed a tender kiss to Dylan's forehead.
"I'm sorry if things aren't what we expected them to be," he whispered, his voice barely more than a breath. "But I promise, I'll try my best every time. I love you."
As if responding to his heartfelt words, Dylan suddenly stirred in his sleep. He shifted closer to EJ, his arms wrapping around him in a gentle, subconscious embrace. EJ's heart thumped loudly in his rib cage at the warmth and security of Dylan's touch, feeling a devastating surge of love and gratitude.
For a moment, EJ lay still, savoring the closeness and the way Dylan instinctively sought him out even in his dreams. It was in these quiet moments that EJ felt the strongest connection to Dylan, a bond that seemed to transcend the complications and fears of the waking world.
Carefully, so as not to disturb Dylan, EJ took a deep breath before pulling Dylan closer to him. He felt the steady rhythm of Dylan's heartbeat. In the darkness, with the world outside their little cocoon feeling so far away, EJ allowed himself to dream again.
