Zayd's pov ── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Nida's trembling finger pointed at me as if it were a dagger aimed straight at my heart. "Zayd is the father of my baby," she said, her voice quivering with tears. The world seemed to tilt off its axis. My breath hitched, and my chest tightened with disbelief. This couldn't be happening.
"N-no," I stammered, my voice barely audible as I struggled to process her words. My mind raced, desperately trying to piece together how this lie could have taken shape. But before I could utter another word, a searing pain exploded across my face. Rida's father had punched me so hard that I was sent sprawling to the floor.
"Zayd!" I heard Rida's voice, laced with shock and disbelief. She was frozen in place, her face as pale as a ghost, tears streaming down her cheeks. I tried to get up, but another blow landed on my face, sending me reeling.
"I never thought you'd be so cheap!" her father spat, his voice shaking with rage. He grabbed my collar and yanked me to my feet, only to deliver another brutal punch. "Take responsibility for your baby, you bastard!"
My mind was spinning. My lips were split and bleeding, and I could feel the bruises beginning to swell on my face, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the agony I felt in my heart. "N-no, no, uncle," I gasped, desperately trying to make him see reason. "I-I am not the father of her child, I swear! Please, listen to me!" My voice cracked as I turned my pleading gaze to Rida. "L-love, she's lying. Nida is lying!"
But Nida's sobs grew louder, her cries echoing off the hospital walls. "I knew it!" she wailed, her voice dripping with desperation. "He won't accept this baby! Rida, please believe me, he made me pregnant. I'm telling the truth!"
My heart pounded in my chest, each beat a painful reminder of the love I was about to lose. "R-Rida," I choked out, my voice trembling with fear and desperation. "Baby, she's lying, please, you have to believe me!"
Before I could say more, another punch connected with my jaw, sending me staggering backward. Rida's father was relentless, his anger blinding him to the truth. "Dare you say a word, bastard!" he roared. "You fucking cheater! You played with both of my daughters. I will kill you! Take responsibility for your child or else I'm seriously going to kill you!"
My vision blurred from the pain and the tears that welled up in my eyes. "Never!" I shouted, my voice raw and hoarse. "That baby is not even mine! Why would I fucking take its responsibility? Your daughter is lying!"
His rage only intensified as he raised his fist to strike me again. I braced myself for the impact, but then I heard Rida's voice, sharp and commanding, "Dad, please enough!!"
He stopped, his fist still clenched, hovering in the air. I didn't waste a second. I stumbled toward Rida, my heart in my throat, tears spilling from my eyes. I couldn't lose her. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her as tightly as I could, my voice breaking with every word. "Love, I'm not lying, please, Rida, trust me. I didn't do anything, please, you have to believe me."
