Note before reading:
So. I wrote this a while ago, spending an ungodly amount of time on it as I wanted everything just right. I don't think I'm ready to say goodbye to these two yet, so a second part is likely incoming soon.
Also, if you are liking these witchy vibes, check out The Winter's Witch. It's currently in its finishing stages and will finish just in time for Halloween season.
Love,
Nina

You held your breath as you stepped into the fog-riddled alley, the air heavy with the scent of smoke and decaying leaves. You heard mice skittering along the walls, the streetlights failing to beat the darkness. You shivered, the chill not just from the cold, but from the sinking realization that leaving the warmth and safety of your cottage nestled deep in the woods had been a grave mistake.
What was I thinking? you scolded yourself as you pressed on. The promise of the amulet had dangled before you like a juicy apple, tempting you with the ability to cast spells without having to guide the magic with your hands. Tall dark figures made their way through the fog, disappearing behind tall buildings that seemed to close in on you, making you quicken your pace as you felt your heart starting to pound.
Not even a witch is safe here.
Your pace quickened, driven by the pulse of fear creeping into your chest. Heart pounding in your ears, you felt the weight of unseen eyes on you, the streets closing in as if the town itself sought to swallow you whole.
"You look lost, little witch."
The voice, low and gruff, sliced through the fog, freezing you in place. Your head snapped around, eyes locking onto a figure emerging from the shadows—a tall man with broad shoulders wrapped in black leather, his dark hair loosely bound, and his unnaturally blue eyes gleaming like cold fire.
"I don't know what you're talking about," you replied coolly as you slowly stuffed your hands into your skirt pockets, your fingers tingling with first syllables of you spell almost ready to leave your lips. You stepped backwards cautiously, your eyes locked onto the man.
A grin, spread across his face. "Don't lie to me, witch. I can smell it on you—the power, the fear." His hands rested confidently on his belt, fingers dangerously close to the spiked sling attached to it.
Too late, you saw it. The chain flew toward you before your spell could fully form, and in a heartbeat, the silver links bound your limbs, wrapping around you with a painful sting. You hit the cobblestones hard, a searing pain splitting your head as your vision blurred. You felt your mind slip away, and the last thing you felt was the rough strength of the hunter's arm lifting you effortlessly over his shoulder, carrying you into the night.
---------
When you woke, the world swayed around you, the unsteady motion of a cart rocking you making the nauseous feeling in your stomach even worse. The coppery taste of blood filled your mouth, and the sharp ache in your wrists told you your wrists had been cuffed on your back. When you managed to look over you shoulder, you managed to see a silver glint in the sunlight. Silver.
When you finally managed to sit up, you found that you had been locked in a cage, This hunter had to know what he was doing, locking you in cuffs coated in silver. You didn't attempt the spell that was in your mind. You had heard how some people had gone mad with pain trying to cast magic while they had been bound by silver.
The forest surrounded you now, the trees not bringing you the comfort they usually did. You were on the most-used road the forest had, not exactly a road to take when you wanted to go unnoticed. So maybe this hunter was in a hurry, or perhaps he did not care who saw.
