I walked to the front gates just as Maria, Kyo, and Taka pulled in. One of those two-wheeled things that Nightwish had told me about followed closely behind with two people riding it. Rashel and Katla removed their helmets and dismounted the two-wheeled beast. Rashel approached me with a smile on her face.
"Are you ready to go to see Nightwish?" I asked her. She turned to Katla and made some motions with her hands to her young daughter, then tossed me her phone.
"She said you should call Nightwish and ask if she still wants us to come," Katla told me.
"Um sure," I said, inspecting the metal and glass brick in my hand. 'Show me how to use this thing again?"
Katla walked over and pressed some buttons on the phone, then handed it back to me. I placed the phone to my ear and heard ringing. After three rings, a not-so-happy voice answered the phone.
"Hello?" Nightwish's voice came on over the phone, deep and agitated.
"Hey," I said, then nervously licked my lips. "I was wondering if you still wanted us to come over?"
There were a few seconds of silence before she responded, "Yes, that'll be fine. Make sure you bring the wolf and her daughter."
"Are you okay? You sound a little off."
"There's been an issue, but if you bring your mate, that can help. Alec is already here, so come as soon as you can. Echo and Jade will greet you at the gate."
She hung up.
I handed the phone back to Rashel, who was giving me a confused look.
"Jade wasn't at school today. I texted her earlier, but she never texted me back. I think something's happened," Katla stated.
"Well, we won't know till we get there. Katla, you ride with Maria. I'm going to ride on this death trap with your mother," I said, eyeing the beast.
Rashel handed me a helmet and placed hers back on her head. She mounted the cycle and the thing roared to life, so I placed the helmet on my head and straddled it behind her, wrapping my arms around her midsection.
When we arrived at a gated driveway, Rashel pressed a few buttons on a pad that displayed the numbers 0-9, and the gate swung open. Rashel drove through, then stopped a few feet in so Maria could drive in too. As we paused, two women approached us. One looked a lot like Nightwish but a little shorter. I could tell she was in her teens, maybe a year or two older than Katla. I couldn't tell much about the other girl as she had blood-stained bandages wrapped around most of her face. Rashel removed her helmet and gave an odd look to the two girls.
"Echo, what happened to your face?" Katla asked, running over to the girl covered in bandages.
"Echo and David were ambushed on the way home last night," came an annoyed voice from the side.
I looked over to see Nightwish walking up to us. In her left hand she held her war hammer, while Alec walked to her side. He towered over her, his white fur moving in the breeze. He walked up to Rashel, knelt, and placed his forehead against hers. He then gave me a nod before he turned around and walked back to Nightwish's side.
"Come," Nightwish said, turning on her heel. She tossed over her shoulder the words, "I have business to attend to with their attackers."
Nightwish walked away. Her daughters followed behind, as did we.
Nightwish looked at Rashel and said, "Take wolf form and stand at my other side. Demonstar, you are to stand next to her."
I knew not to ask questions, and so did Rashel, who started to strip off her clothing.
