Season One Meet-Cutes

How any of the (or all of them simultaneously) yandere Umbrella Academy members would go about first introducing themself to their darling—accidentally/spontaneously; having fallen in love at first sight, or others who have already known of their darling for long enough to plan out the best meeting around their darling's schedule, interests, and other significant factors that would make it appear like love at first sight.

Take note that these are strictly in the parameters of season one, but not solely in 2019. Perhaps they met earlier, or on Five's case: later. Also these may not be meet "cutes", but meet "angsts". Prepare for the worst.

Luther Hargreeves:

When it comes to Luther; there would obviously be love at first sight over a premeditated introduction. Literally any situation would work because Luther immediately finds himself looking at his darling as if they're the only person in the room, captured by their appearance, and yearning to be close to them in more ways than one (the same way he looked at Sloane for example).

Diego Hargreeves:

During his vigilante crime fighting he had found something not alerted to by the police radio he stole, nor was it on the police's radar at all, and that was his darling. His darling being trafficked, kidnapped, or otherwise mistreated at someone else's hand because they had nowhere else to go. Diego would take any means to bring justice to the criminal, but finds himself uncertain of how to deal with the victim who was actively defending their trafficker/kidnapper/abuser. They had no one else to go to, no family, no friends, or money. The trafficker/kidnapper/abuser had isolated them from all of these things so that they were entirely dependent on them, so Diego decided to take in his darling...Only to realise how much better they really deserved—beyond being a victim. His darling was attractive, polite, and good company overall. How could someone ever mistreat them? Diego would vow to protect them from the day he took them in, and has stuck to that promise.

Not quite love at first sight, but not planned beforehand either. Really the relationship between Diego and his darling would initially fuel his ego; making him feel prideful in being a good person, and happy to have his darling at his side for that reason alone. But there's an undeniable trauma bond that forms between Diego and his darling, some unhealthy dynamics going into the relationship, but things calm down after commitment is proven on either side.

Allison Hargreeves:

Allison is a tougher one to imagine this with. She's very concentrated on her family—her adoptive Hargreeves siblings, and biological family, the impending apocalypse, and trying to save things. Whereas the others have select moments where they COULD have met their darling, been immediately compelled by them at first glance, and seeking more—the same isn't true for Allison. That's why I think it would be best to imagine Allison meeting her darling earlier. During a crime scene, amidst the crowds of fans, or elsewhere. Someone who she seeks out in other lovers, but always finds that no one can compare. That's why it meant so much when she laid eyes on her darling again while picking up a coffee and bombolone from Petrola's Bakery. They were the one to serve her. What hurt most is that Allison couldn't stick around to chat, she had to head to Viktor's apartment, but now she knew where her darling worked. She knew they were still around, and Allison was going to put that information to use.

Klaus Hargreeves:

It would be easy to say Klaus found his darling when he unknowingly time travelled with a briefcase, but as much as I think Delores is an important character in Five's progression: I also hold the same belief when it comes to Dave. Dave could easily represent Klaus' codependency, and addictive behaviours. When Klaus didn't have drugs he had Dave, and when he didn't have anyone he had drugs. That's why it was so important to Klaus when he met his darling during rehab—they could be a patient or doctor themselves—and they were able to inspire some independence in Klaus. They need to be someone who teaches Klaus to be tougher, better, and whatnot. Sure he would undeniably be depending on them for that, but eventually Klaus would be able to hone that power for himself with someone cheering him on.

Five Hargreeves:

I don't think it's a good idea to imagine a potential lover of Five's being apart of his life in the future that he jumps to. That was Delores place, and she is a very symbolic character that cannot be replaced. "Dolores" derives from the latin word "dolor"; meaning pain and sorrow. She was a representation of the grief and trauma Five carried with him for decades. A better idea would be to have him meet his darling in the Commission, someone close to his physical and mental age at the time, someone who is almost an opposite to Five, but when they're assigned as partners he brings out a more rebellious side of his darling, and they bring out a more sensible side of him. They balance each other out, and most importantly bring the best out of each other. That's why his darling would have agreed to accompany Five in saving the world, defying the Commission's ideologies, and showing how different they have become with Five.

This would mirror Diego's relationship in a sense. They both have trauma, but they are both wanting to be the beat versions of themselves. They want to exist as independents, yet play a large part in each other's lives by embracing their worst, and best sides with affection. They're both old people trapped in young bodies; referred to as "wise for their age" or "mature for their age" when alone, but together they can be childish, fun, and determined.

Ben Hargreeves:

This could go one of two ways. One: Ben met his darling before he died, so that would have been under similar circumstances to Allison, or two: Ben had a one sided meet-cute when Klaus happened to meet Ben'e darling, and Ben was instantly in love. Either way it wouldn't have amounted to much other than his darling being haunted by his loving spirit...

Viktor Hargreeves:

This is hugely different from how season one ACTUALLY took place, but what if Viktor's darling takes the place of Leonard (not in the abusive way), and embodies the Durango that is explored in season four? Personally I'm of the belief that Marigold and Durango should have been delved into earlier so that the audience can have even more information into things like Abigail's death, what the Marigold is, and assert a name for it earlier instead of just ripping the name off of what Harlan proposed in season three. This would mean a different apocalypse took place initially, and in a hypothetical future Viktor would have to learn to move on from his darling for the sake of the "original" timeline. Leonard himself could have easily held Durango in his body, been written as toxic in that sense rather than abusive (though it is important to represent bad relationships for awareness), and show a complexity into their relationships other than Viktor being lonely enough to have such low standards.
