"Hey, when is Erika coming back from Florida?" Clarence inquired.

"Next week," I said.

"So she accepted the job offer in Florida, and you're still here in California playing for the San Francisco Giants," he said, looking at me with a mix of surprise and concern. I nodded, feeling the weight of our diverging paths settling in. It was a bittersweet moment, realizing that our dreams were taking us in different directions.

"Unless the Giants trade me, which I know they are planning to do," I told him.

"What if they don't?"

"Long distance, like the last time it happened."

"I don't know, man, because marriage and dating in a relationship are two different things. So who knows if you two will ever fall out of love with each other?"

"Clarence that is not going to happen."

Even though I can't predict the fucking future......

"It's hard for me to imagine that happening to you guys, but as we all know, the world is full of surprises."

"Hey man can I ask you something?"  I questioned.

"Sure what is it?" Clarence asks.

"So I went back to the therapist three weeks ago, and I asked, 'Do you think I see Sarah as a mom more than my mom?'"

"You are twenty-three and how old is she?"

"Thirty-something I don't know honestly but  she is younger than Francis and  probably the same age as my cousin's uncle from my aunt's side."

"Mommy issues," Clarence mumbled as he sat at the kitchen table, tapping his fingers on the worn wood surface. I sighed and rolled my eyes at him.

"I don't have mommy issues. How can I have that?"

"I don't know, Sammy, but I am just guessing. What? No, your relationship with your mom is not bad."

"So?"

"Sammy I am not a fucking therapist so I don't know but there is no way you think of Sarah as your mom when she could be your sister."

"Exactly it is just so crazy."

When my phone rang, I quickly grabbed it from the counter and answered after checking the caller ID.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hey Sammy, it's the general manager. I hope you're doing well. I regret to inform you that the team has made the tough decision to trade you to the Miami Marlins. I want to emphasize that this decision was not made lightly, and it's purely a business move for the team. Your contributions to the team have been invaluable, and we truly appreciate your hard work and dedication. I understand that this news may come as a shock, and I'm here to support you through this transition. Please know that this decision in no way reflects your talent or character as a player. We believe that this trade will offer you new opportunities, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to reach out. Take care, Sammy."
