Going against Carlisle's and Esme's suggestion, Seraphina did not call Paul the next day. She realized she hadn't spent much time with the little hybrid. So, instead of spending her day brooding because of Paul's odd and mean behavior, she decided to spend her day with the little girl while Isabella was busy developing her gift. You could say that she willingly reduced herself to a babysitter. At least she was a better choice than Randall or Mary, who they didn't even really know.
But she had fun. Who knew that little Renesmee had a mischievous side to her?
•
"Why do you call me that?" The girl suddenly asked in midst of drawing her picture.
They had the living room to themselves, so they took advantage of the free space and laid on the floor to draw their pictures. Renesmee's was a very detailed drawing of Jacob's wolf form. Seraphina disliked to admit it, but his wolf was beautiful, though obviously not as beautiful as Paul's. Her little younger self could only dream to be as talented as Renesmee was.
"What? Renaissance?"
The girl nodded, and Seraphina chuckled at her own inside joke.
"It's because your name is so special. It offers a lot of potential nicknames. Like Renaissance, ReNameMe, Resumé, Renegade, Redneck, Resentment, Ratatouille, Ravioli, Rasputin, Ragnarok, Razzmatazz, Nesquik, Nestlé, Nescafé and —"
"What is a Ravioli?" The hybrid then asked innocently, causing the witch to halt in her sentence and to look up from her painting in shock.
"You - are you serious right now?"
Renesmee nodded her head sheepishly. She wondered if this was something one should know about.
"Come on." Seraphina said and held out a hand for the child to take.
They walked outside to the clearing where the Cullen family and the Denali's helped Bella train her shield since yesterday.
"What have y'all been feeding this child? She doesn't know what Ravioli is!"
The parents were way too shocked from their sudden appearance and the witch's outburst as Edward was once again kneeling on the ground with his face contorted in pain, to properly speak and defend their methods on how they raised their child.
"She has always preferred blood over human food." Carlisle calmly clarified, but that only caused his friend to get more annoyed.
"So what? You know I was also a picky eater as a child. Like, I hated beetroot, but my mama forced it down my throat because I needed the iron." She then looked down at Renesmee, who still held her hand. "Do you want to eat Ravioli and see if you like it?"
The girl nodded timidly, feeling a little shy from all the eyes directed at her, awaiting her answer.
"Then we go buy the ingredients to make it. None of that canned Ravioli stuff in my presence."
"But —" Bella wanted to object, not feeling comfortable knowing that her child wasn't around her at all times.
"She's safe with me. If a bad vampire is nearby, I can hide us with just a snap of my fingers. It's a trick young witches learn for our safety." Seraphina comforted her.
Though it took a look at Carlisle, who nodded reassuringly, for the mother to give in. Edward was less complicated. From what he saw the few times Seraphina allowed him to read her mind, he decided that she was trustworthy. And from what Carlisle and Esme told them in the last days, they really had no reason not to trust Seraphina.
