"Haha" Paige laughed over the phone. Rowan blushed through the screen, she missed that laugh. It had been five days since Paige and Rowan had seen each other in person. Paige had left for the fall basketball tournament in Virginia, five days ago. The tournament was eight days long and Rowan had planned to go up on the last day.
The two had FaceTimed and called non stop, but it wasn't enough. "Come to Virginia. I need to see you babe" Paige whined through the phone. Rowan's heart stopped, "when?" She asked, "tomorrow? hell fucking right now?" Paige groaned, with a serious tone in her voice. Rowan laughed, "I can't. I have class" Rowan sighed, she could hear Paige grunt, annoyed, "then come tomorrow, I have a couple games, I can get you tickets, courtside" Paige pleaded. The blonde was not giving up.
"Where will I stay? I only booked a hotel for the 27th" Rowan asked, putting her phone on speaker so she could fill up her water bottle. "Rowan. There's only one place you'll stay when you're here, and that's with me, in my arms, in my bed." Paige demanded. "I don't care if you have class, tell them you're sick. I'm getting you a plane ticket for tomorrow. I miss you too much to wait three more days" the blonde cried, "jeez someone's clingy" Rowan laughed.
"Text me the flight info, I gotta go, I have practice" Rowan said, slipping on her shoes. "Okay, bye, I love you" "love you to P" Rowan quickly said before hanging up.
"Partners?" Maggie asked, throwing the ball up into the air and easily catching it, with one hand. "Obvi" Rowan rolled her eyes. The two ran off to a empty area on the field, Rowan re-adjusted her glove, and looked up at the blonde. Their coach was sick this week so their assistant coach had been leading all the practices.
"Alright ladies, jog it in!" The assistant coach yelled. Maggie and Rowan quickly jog in, playfully shoving each other on the way. "Let's make a circle, take a seat" Ellie, the assistant coach says. Ellies holding her clipboard, nervously tapping her fingers on it. The team takes a seat, a bit confused on why we're having a chat during practice.
"As you all know our head coach, Willow, has been out for the past couple days. I just received a text saying that she is in the hospital. Now I'm still getting details about what's happening with her, but as of what I know right now, she has to get surgery." Ellie explains, her tone soft and full with sorrow. "Her husband said that the doctors are going to remove her appendix. That's what's been causing her stomach all that pain. Now I'm not sure what time the surgery is today but visiting hours is tomorrow morning at 10 to 12. It would be nice if you girls would come with me and visit"
"Omg gosh, that's terrible, of course we will come and visit. Thanks for telling us" Maggie said, holding her head in her hands. Rowan rubbed the girls back, everyone was speechless. "I know this is hard for you girls, but Coach is strong, she'll pull through. Now let's be strong for her" Ellie said, clapping go her hands together. "I think we need a group hug" Sav said, her voice slightly breaking down.
The girls all looked at each other, trying to hold their tears in. Rowan couldn't help but shed a tear as she was smudged in a group hug. She was so grateful for this team.
