Today was the day. The day Eros would come to collect.

I sat on the edge of my bed, staring blankly at the floor, my stomach in knots. The weight of what was about to happen crushed down on me, but at least, thanks to Noah and his family, I had the money. They hadn't hesitated to help me out when Noah explained the situation, though it had taken everything in me to accept it. I felt like a burden, but Noah's parents reassured me, promising it would be okay. Still, I swore to pay them back, even if it took me the rest of my life.

Now, here I was, pacing back and forth in my cramped living room, waiting for the inevitable knock at the door. The sun had already dipped below the horizon, the sky outside slowly darkening. With every passing minute, my anxiety grew, my heart racing faster than I could control. What if something went wrong? What if Eros didn't accept the payment? A thousand worst-case scenarios raced through my mind, each one more terrifying than the last.

I flinched at every sound, half-expecting to hear the door being kicked in at any moment. But then, finally, I heard it—three sharp knocks. My heart leapt into my throat. They knocked?

I froze, staring at the door like it was a trap. The fact that they'd even bothered to knock surprised me. Maybe it wasn't Eros. Maybe it was something else entirely, but I couldn't risk ignoring it.

Taking a deep breath, I walked over to the door, my hands trembling as I reached for the handle. I pulled it open slowly, unsure of what I would find on the other side.

It was Eros. Alone.

He stood there, his scarred face illuminated by the dim porch light, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. He looked just as terrifying as before, maybe more so now that the threat was real, imminent. His cold eyes flicked over me, taking in my tense posture.

"Evening," he drawled, his voice sending a shiver down my spine. He took a step forward, not waiting for an invitation, as if he owned the space already. "I believe you have something for me?"

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my voice steady as I nodded. "Yeah, I—I've got it." I moved back toward the living room table, where I had placed the envelope stuffed with cash.

Eros watched me carefully, his gaze never leaving me as I handed him the envelope. My fingers brushed against the rough paper, and for a moment, I couldn't let go, as if holding onto the money would somehow change everything.

He snatched the envelope from my hand, weighing it in his palm before flipping it open and rifling through the bills. Silence hung in the air as he counted the money, each second stretching on longer than the last. I held my breath, waiting for his reaction, for some sign that it was enough.

Finally, Eros let out a low chuckle, stuffing the envelope into his jacket. "Well, well. You really came through, huh?" His smirk widened, but there was something unsettling about the way he looked at me, like this wasn't over. Not by a long shot.

I nodded, my heart still hammering in my chest. "I—I promised. That's all of it. We're done now, right?"

Eros's gaze darkened with curiosity, his eyes narrowing as he tilted his head slightly. "So, how did you manage to get hold of this money?" he asked, his tone dripping with suspicion. "That's a lot of cash for a little guy like you."

I swallowed, my throat tight. "That doesn't really mather" I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. "The deal is done. That's all that matters."

For a moment, he didn't say anything, but then he burst into laughter—a cold, mocking sound that made my skin crawl. He took a step closer, his eyes gleaming with something twisted. "Did you sell that body of yours?" he asked, his voice low and taunting. "I guess that's the only thing you could've done. With a body like that..." His gaze roamed over me, making me feel exposed, vulnerable, as if he were inspecting me like I was some sort of object.
