He ordered that no physician be called for Wei Hanyue, and even Madam Jiang was prohibited from seeing her daughter.

Although the current dynasty has an open-minded society,  the humiliation of a noble lady from the marquis's family at the hands of wicked people has become the gossip of everyone in the capital, from prominent families to common folks, over the past few months.

Whenever the women of the Zhongyong Marquis's household went out to social events, they would hear idle chatter in their ears, and who knows what was being said behind their backs.

Speaking of which, Zhongyong Marquis Wei Ping had been hesitant to take action against this granddaughter. Among the ruling families, he could be considered indecisive.

If this had happened in any other household, they would have long since forced their daughter to "commit suicide" to prove her innocence; they wouldn't allow a tainted daughter to survive and bring shame to her family.

Thinking of her older sister, with whom she had exchanged hundreds of letters over the years, Wei Hanzhang said, "I'll go ask Grandfather to let me see Sister."

What good would it do to meet a sister she had never seen before?

Upon hearing this, Madam Jiang's eyes lit up with hope, feeling it was worth a try.

After a moment of contemplation, Wei Heng nodded. "Your grandfather does not approve of headstrong girls; I'll ask him and see if he will allow you sisters to meet."

Wei Heng didn't keep his wife and daughter waiting long. The next day, he brought back news that they could meet, but only this once, to fulfill their bond as sisters.

The family temple was located in the most remote corner of the marquis's residence. Madam Jiang was not allowed to enter, so she stood at the temple entrance, turning to her youngest daughter. "Ranran, remember to advise her, encourage your sister to live for me. I don't want to see a white-haired person send off a black-haired one."

Wei Hanzhang nodded earnestly. "Don't worry, mother, I understand."

The family temple of the Zhongyong Marquis was quite large. A servant led Wei Hanzhang through several twists and turns before bringing her into a side room, where she finally saw Wei Hanyue.

This was where the story in the original work began—the incident involving the eldest daughter of the male lead, Wei Heng, and the first step of Jiang Shi, the female antagonist, to exit the stage.

Wei Hanyue was eighteen this year, at the age of blooming beauty, yet at this moment, she looked like a withered flower, her lips pale and half-reclining on the couch, with a terrifying bruise around her neck. Even so, one could still see that she had been beautiful.

"Sister..." Wei Hanzhang sat beside her and softly said, "It's me, Ranran. I'm back."

The beauty on the couch blinked her eyelashes slightly, slowly lifting her eyelids. "When did you come back?"

Her voice was hoarse and grating as if she hadn't spoken in a long time or was affected by the injury to her neck.

Wei Hanzhang blinked her eyes, holding back tears. "I've been back for nearly a month."

Despite this being their first meeting, there was no awkwardness between the sisters. "Sister, do you want some water?"

Wei Hanyue shook her head in refusal, then asked, "Did Grandfather agree to let you come, or did you sneak away?"

"Don't worry, Sister; it was Grandfather who approved it. Mother is outside right now. When I came in, she asked me to tell you that she doesn't want to see a white-haired person send off a black-haired one." Wei Hanzhang held her sister's hand and softly said, "Sister, please don't do anything foolish again."
