Jaehyun sat casually on the plush couch in Doyoung’s living room, legs stretched out comfortably as he scrolled through his phone with a lazy smirk playing on his lips. The sound of the front door opening caught his attention for a moment, and he glanced up briefly before refocusing on his screen, his expression unreadable.

Taeyong walked in, the cool autumn breeze still lingering on his clothes as he shrugged off his black hoodie and dropped it carelessly over a nearby chair. His eyes immediately landed on Jaehyun, who looked infuriatingly comfortable in his home. Taeyong’s jaw tensed as he observed Jaehyun’s nonchalant pose, that familiar cocky air he always carried around like it was his second skin. Without a word, he rolled his eyes in silent exasperation and turned sharply on his heel, his footsteps brisk as he headed toward the staircase.

He didn’t need to look back to know that Jaehyun was probably smirking. He could almost feel the weight of Jaehyun's self-satisfied gaze boring into his back. There was a time when he would’ve paused to make polite conversation, a time when he didn’t instinctively bristle at the mere sight of Jaehyun lounging in his living room like he owned the place. But those days were long gone, and Taeyong wasn’t about to entertain the idea of pretending to be civil.

As he reached the top of the stairs, Taeyong cast one last look over his shoulder, catching a glimpse of Jaehyun still staring at his phone, fingers lazily swiping across the screen. To anyone else, Jaehyun might have seemed engrossed, but Taeyong knew better—he could tell that Jaehyun was watching him from the corner of his eye, enjoying his obvious irritation. It made his blood boil.

Jaehyun had this way of getting under his skin without even trying. It wasn’t just his face—the sharp lines of his jaw, the piercing gaze, or the way his hair fell effortlessly over his forehead. It was the way he carried himself, like he didn’t have a care in the world, like everything just came easily to him. It infuriated Taeyong. And what made it worse was that he couldn’t understand why Doyoung, who was kind and sensible, would ever want to be friends with someone like Jaehyun.

Upstairs, Taeyong slammed his bedroom door shut a little harder than necessary, his frustration simmering just beneath the surface. He flung himself onto his bed, glaring at the ceiling as if it were responsible for all his annoyances. There was no specific incident that fueled his dislike—just a series of small, irritating encounters that had gradually built up into a quiet, burning resentment.

The first time Taeyong met Jaehyun, he hadn’t thought much of him. He had seemed nice enough, if not a little too confident for Taeyong's liking. But over time, whispers and rumors began to circulate, stories of Jaehyun’s carefree attitude toward relationships, the way he flirted without a second thought, and how he could wrap almost anyone around his finger with a single charming smile. There were plenty of girls who seemed to fall for his effortless charisma, and Taeyong found himself feeling oddly protective—not for any specific person, but for the idea that someone could get hurt because of Jaehyun's reckless nature.

That was when he started to keep his distance, when he began to resent every grin, every teasing wink, and every arrogant smirk Jaehyun flashed at him. And every time Doyoung defended Jaehyun, insisting he wasn’t as bad as the rumors suggested, Taeyong felt his irritation flare even hotter.
