Chapter 4

|SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2023 |

Ross is on his way to Laura's album release party, he told her he couldn't attended due to band meeting and drinks, however he left straight after the meeting. It's been almost 2 months since Laura has seen him, she's been busy with interviews and party prep also finishing her album. She know's he's been busy over the summer to in Europe and Canada and some other festivals. She also know's he got back in town a few days ago as he texted her saying he couldn't make it tonight. She's kinda gutted about it as Ross couldn't make it either as he's back in New York. But at least it takes away the stress of confusing feelings and she can focus on the album.

"Hi Vanessa" He smiles embracing Laura's sister in a hug.

"Hi Ross? I thought Laura said you couldn't make it?" She questions confused.

"Band commitment finished early, Ryland, Rocky and Rydel are here too, Rydel is parking and Ryland and Rocky are just getting drinks" He explains with a small smile.

"Well thank you, Laura will be happy, are you guys ok?" Vanessa asks curiously wanting to hear Ross' side of things.

"I don't know, I kinda came more to apologise to her, honestly not really spoken over the summer. I tried to distract myself from her in Europe, maybe drank too much, but I barely called or texted her so she's probably pissed off with me but I wanted to come and support her. Our friendship has been a bit of rollercoaster lately, I guess since our almost relationship end of last year/start of this year and now her relationship with a guy with the same name. However if she's happy I'll learn to be happy and hey I get to spend loads of time with her next year so who knows what will happen" Ross says with a small smile.

"I'm sorry Ross" Vanessa says patting his shoulder as he just shrugs. She doesn't get a chance to say more as Laura appears.

"Ross?" She questions confused.

"It's me, I'm here" He says with a smile wrapping his arms around her shoulders as Laura wraps hers around his waist tightly. They hear a click and break apart at the flash of a camera that Blake Laura's photographer is holding.

He smiles smirking at them.

"I missed you, how was Europe, the festivals and Canada, sorry I didn't answer your phone call in the interview I was filming Someday music video" She says with a chuckle.

"It's alright I forgive you I guess" He says with a smirk.

"Thank you for coming" She smiles hugging him again.

"Yo Laura!" Ryland cheers.

"Oh yeah these guys are here too" Ross says rolling his eyes.

"Sup Laura how are you?" Rocky asks embracing her in a hug.

"I'm good, thank you all for coming it means a lot" She smiles around at the group.

"Laura!" Rydel says squealing as she sees her brunette best friend.

The evening is a success. Even though her boyfriend couldn't make it as he had a show, Laura was really glad Ross and his siblings did.

The party is over and Romeo and Juliet is now on her tv and they are lying down on the sofa getting through a bottle of red wine and bowl of pop corn.

"Are you excited for our tour?" She asks him curiously as she wonders how he feels, he doesn't express them normally only really with her.

"I am you?" Ross says with a small smile.

"Yeah, nervous but it will be so fun! We get to spend more time together which will be nice especially as we haven't recently'' Laura sighs she was a bit disappointed her and Ross didn't keep in contact when he was away.

"Yeah it will be good, speaking of shall we post something?" He asks curiously.

"Sure, let's take a selfie" He smiles at her optimism for posting them finally.

He pulls out his phone and he leans down and kisses her cheek. They smile at the photo and she picks her phone off the coffee table and pulls up instagram.

'Movie nights! Of course it was his choice again tonight! I pick next time! @ ross_lynch'

Ross reposts her posts and just puts a red heart.

''I'm gonna head off" Ross says their movie finishes.

"Yeah I should head to bed, how about you stay the night?" She asks she really doesn't want him getting an Uber this late.

"You sure?" He asks.

"Yeah I have a guest room remember?" She smiles. He sighs as he wishes he could share her bed like they used to but he knows she is trying to distance herself a bit from him.

"What about your' room like normal?" He asks.

"Ross we shouldn't anymore, I know you did last time, but I don't want my feelings to get confused" She sighs.

"Wait feelings, do you still like me?" he asks hope filling him. He knows she liked him when they were fooling around after his relationship with Jaz ended but he didn't know if she still liked him. So what, maybe she like's both Ross' but she can't tell either of them that.

"I don't know I'm confused, think space is what we need for a bit, but I don't want to ruin my night so please stay we could grab brunch tomorrow morning?" Suggests hoping it doesn't sound like she is fully kicking him out. He sighs again but just nods not wanting to argue with her.

"Sure, night" He says with a frustrated sigh before walking out the lounge. Laura sighs and finishes clearing up the lounge.

When she makes it upstairs she peeks into her guest room. He isn't there.

Instead she seems him playing her piano in her own make shift studio. His back is to her so he can't see him. She feels a tear roll down her cheek as she recognises the song. Heart of mine. The song he wrote about her.

"Just hold me 'til sunrise
Let's save the goodbye
Feelings are so hard to find
This heart of mine, oh yeah" He finishes. He turns around and sees her staring at him feeling left speechless.

"Laura" He whispers.

"Ross I..I..I" She stumbles over her words not knowing what to say fiddling with her fingers nervously. She takes a deep breath shaking her head walking over to her piano and sits down next to him. He stares at her nostalgia filling him, trying to regain focus he plays a few chords. Laura smiles recognising 'You Can Come To Me'. She joins in until their hands brush. She chuckles and blushes as she feels like Ally. She looks up to Ross to see his reaction. He's in a daze staring at her. He feels himself automatically leaning in and for a split second she leans in too. But stops him as she rests her hand on his chest and her forehead is touching his.

"I'm sorry Ross we can't, you know we can't, not anymore, goodnight" And with that she pulls away, stands up and leave the room. She heads to bed wiping her tears away. She hears him fumble around before also going to bed. Guess he is still staying the night.
