•MISHA•

I knock softly on the door of my mother-in-law's room, before pushing it open slightly. She's seated at her bed with a book in her hands and as i nearer her I notice she's reading Bhagavad Gita.

The room is filled with a warm glow from the afternoon sun and she looks up at me with a kind of smile, her eyes softening as she removes her reading glasses

"Misha, come in. Is everything alright?" she asks, frowning

I offer a small smile and cross the room. "Yes, Maa. I just wanted to let you know that I'm leaving for my parents' house for a few days. Eshaan, is here to pick me up."

Her smile falters, as I can sense the slight surprise in her expression. "Oh, I see. You must miss your family. Have you told Avyan?"

I nod, but my chest tightens a little. "Yes, I texted him this morning, but he hasn't responded yet. He's probably busy."

She gives me a small understanding nod "Avyan has been working long hours. He's always had this habit of getting lost in his work. Don't worry, he'll respond when he can" She pauses and then asks "When will you be back?"

"Probably after two or three days," I reply, still unsure. Part of me isn't ready to leave, but I also felt like I needed to. I need some space, time to think.

"Alright" she says, her tone light but understanding. "Take care, Misha. And give my regards to your parents"

"Sure" I smile and walk out of the room, feeling both relieved and a little uncertain.

Glad to have a mother in law like her, she's unlike those typical mother in laws who i used to hear and watch. She is supportive, never prying, and for that I'm grateful. But it doesn't ease the knot of worry I have about Avyan. He hadn't been himself—at least not the Avyan I thought I knew.

As I make my way down the long hallway, I feel lighter, but not entirely free of the tension that built up inside me over the last few days. The past week, since Avyan and I married, has been anything but what I'd imagined. I pictured us spending time together, getting to know each other better, but reality turned out differently.

Just as I was lost in thought, I hear a familiar voice calling my name. Turning, I saw Devika bhabhi, holding Aarav, in her arms. His chubby little hands waved enthusiastically in my direction

"Chachii" He squeals

"Going somewhere?" Devika bhabhi asks, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"I'm going to my parents' for a few days," I explain, smiling as Aarav squirm to get down and I bend down to give him a quick kiss on his cheek
