As the carriage curtain was drawn open, I followed Song Xu and climbed into the carriage.
Princess sat across from him, looking at my severed head with utter disdain.

"You already agreed to return to the residence with me. Why are you still holding onto that filthy thing?"

Song Xu gave a gentle smile. "Yun Niang was once my wife. It's only right that I see her off on her final journey."

Princess seemed slightly on guard. "Are you blaming me for killing her?"

Song Xu shook his head. "I just worry that without a proper burial, her spirit might linger in this world and haunt Your Highness."
I nearly fainted with anger.

You scoundrel! I just died, and here you are already cozying up to Princess!

While I fumed, Princess's mood brightened. She waved her jade-like hand. "Fine, I'll take you out of the city to bury her. From now on, you'll serve me wholeheartedly."

Song Xu bowed his head compliantly. "Yes, Your Highness."

I kicked Song Xu hard, but my semi-transparent foot merely passed through his body.

He didn't feel a thing.

Sigh, I was already dead—unable to land a kick on him ever again.

Oh well. Since he was willing to bury me, I'd let it slide for now.

After killing me, Princess had my body burned, leaving only my head behind.

Once Song Xu buried my head, I'd finally be able to reincarnate in peace.

In this lifetime, we'd spent more time apart than together, and now that it was time to part forever, I felt a reluctant pang.

It's not that I have a love brain—it's just that Song Xu is simply too handsome.

I floated close to him, resting my head lightly on his shoulder, gazing longingly at his handsome profile.

He seemed to sense something, turning his head slightly. The corner of his mouth brushed against my forehead.

The carriage traveled to a hill outside the city and stopped in front of a bamboo forest.

Song Xu held my head as he got out of the carriage alone, and Princess lifted the curtain, urging him to hurry.

I followed behind Song Xu, glancing back at Princess and sticking my tongue out at her.

Wicked woman, if it weren't for the fear of not being able to reincarnate, I'd surely become a vengeful ghost to scare you to death!

Song Xu walked into the depths of the bamboo forest, cut off a piece of his robe, and gently placed my head on it.

At least he still has some conscience; he didn't just toss my head on the ground.

I floated beside him, looking at my head on the ground.

My hair was a tangled mess, and my face was smeared with blood—absolutely hideous.

I sighed, complaining that he hadn't even bothered to clean me up.

But he couldn't hear me.

He just focused on digging a hole in the clearing.

No knife, no shovel—just his bare hands.

Quickly, the small hole grew deeper, and his hands became covered in blood.
I anxiously stepped on his knife a couple of times.

"Hey, you've got a knife, you know."

Still, he couldn't hear me.

He kept digging with his hands.

Soon, the hole was ready.

Song Xu picked up my head and carefully untangled each knot in my hair.

Alright, I suppose he's not completely heartless.

As he combed, he suddenly spoke to himself, "Yun'er, tell me, how did she kill you?"

I scoffed.

If you've got the guts, go ask Princess. What good does it do to ask my head? My head can't even speak.

I plopped down beside him and, fuming, said, "How else? She yanked my hair, slapped me across the face a few times, then ordered her men to chop off my head. And that wasn't enough—she had them burn my body afterward."

Song Xu didn't react, still focused on combing my hair.

So annoying. You can't hear me anyway, so why even ask?

Soon, he finished fixing the hair on my forehead, revealing my slightly swollen face.

He caressed my cheek, then placed a gentle kiss on my bloodless lips.

"Yun'er, you've suffered."

I kicked him again.

Dude, you're about to marry the murderer, so what's with the act of affection?

But Song Xu remained oblivious to my anger.

He took off the jade pendant he'd always worn and placed it on my forehead.

Then he carefully wrapped my head in the fabric and placed it in the hole he had dug.

He buried my head under the yellow earth, handful by handful.

Once finished, Song Xu walked away from the bamboo forest without looking back.

Off to embrace his grand fortune.

I watched him slowly fade into the distance, quietly saying goodbye to him in my heart.
