Chapter 12It had been four days since Roman started his training. He was exhausted but slowly getting used to the grind. He figured a few days of prep was all he needed—or at least that's what the mysterious person on the other end thought.
After his training with Luna he headed straight home, determined to dress his best so he could swing by the bar to see Sage. When he walked in, she greeted him with a warm smile that made him smile back. He noticed her coworkers watching them, grinning like they were in on some inside joke—it was clear she had talked about him, but in a good way.
"I wanted to see you," he said, leaning in a bit.
"I was thinking the same thing," she replied, her eyes sparkling.
"I finish my shift early today, so just wait for me?"
"Of course!" Roman said.
After a little while, Sage grabbed her things, and they walked side by side, their fingers brushing together.
As they walked, Roman noticed Sage's neck was bare, just a jacket covering her. He had a scarf on, and without thinking too much, he offered it to her.
"Roman, you don't have to. I'm not cold," she said, shaking her head.
"Even so, I think it looks better on you than it does on me," he flirted, wrapping the scarf around her neck.
"Well, I do look good in everything," Sage teased, striking a playful pose. Roman laughed, which made her laugh too.
"I know a place we can go. You'll like it," she said, excitedly.
"Where do you want to go?" Roman asked, curious.
"It's a surprise."
"I hate surprises," he admitted, rolling his eyes.
"Well, you're going to have to get used to it. I'm full of them!" she said, grinning as they continued their walk, both feeling the warmth of the moment.
She took me to Central Park, where the bridge is, and the scenery was beautiful.
"You've probably been here before, but I wanted to share it with you," she said, looking out at the view.
"Yeah, I've been here before. It's a pretty sight," Roman replied, looking directly at Sage.
"Do you come here often?" Sage asked, teasingly.
"No, I never really had the time. I'm always busy," he admitted.
"Oh, I see. But you made time for me. Why's that?" she asked, a curious smile on her face.
"Because I truly enjoy spending time with you; it feels so effortless and natural," Roman said, looking directly at her with a warm smile.
"Plus, how could I pass up the chance to see your gorgeous face?" he flirted.
"Did anyone ever tell you you're really good with your words? Smooth talker," Sage replied, a playful glint in her eye.
"No, you're the first to say that," Roman chuckled. "But I guess it comes naturally when I'm with you."
"Oh really? So I bring out the charm in you?" she teased, leaning a bit closer.
"Definitely. You make it easy to flirt," he said, smirking.
Sage laughed softly. "Well, I have to admit, I enjoy the attention."
"Good, because I'm not planning to stop anytime soon," he said with a grin.
