"Hmmm," Victim hummed as he stared down at his tablet. He glanced at Agent, who nodded in response before focusing on the stick in front of them. "So, Verdant, tell me what you have found," Victim asked the dark green stick named Verdant. Verdant cleared his throat before speaking.
"Well, I've managed to easily hack into the database of Annex Corp and acquire old footage. I haven't opened the files yet, but there are thousands of them. Each file is named with a letter followed by a number. You can open the folder now and check it," Verdant explained. Victim eagerly clicked open the folder on his tablet.
"So many," Victim exclaimed in awe as he scrolled through numerous files. These files must contain blueprints and plans for their weapons, he thought. "ZT-2040, let's see this one," Victim said, clicking on the footage. Agent approached, displaying interest in what Victim had discovered.
The video started with a piece of cardboard displaying the words "ZT-2040." It slowly panned closer, revealing a brown stick figure lying on a metal table. Horror washed over Victim as he watched the footage, witnessing the mutilation of the brown stick figure.
Agent looked at it in disgust and glanced at Verdant, who refused to look. "Is this some kind of experimentation?" Victim asked, seeking answers. Verdant shook his head in response.
"I don't really know, sir. I managed to hack into some of their database, but many things appear to be missing, as if they were intentionally deleted," Verdant explained, producing a stack of papers. "This is all I could find."
Feeling overwhelmed, Victim swiped off the footage, unable to watch any longer. The video had revealed the grisly process of attaching other stick figures' limbs to the brown stick figure, resulting in a grotesque amalgamation of many bodies.
Agent shook his head in disbelief at the scene. Victim sighed heavily and placed the tablet on the table, reaching for the stack of papers instead. He quickly scanned through them, realizing that the data pertained to different individuals, that's named with a letter at the start and a number after.
"This is insane," Victim muttered, coming to the unsettling realization that Annex Corp may have conducted experiments not only on weapons but also on living stick figures.
"Do you know what this means?" Victim glanced at Agent, seeking his understanding. "This means the possibility of what Sable is searching for is not technology... but an experiment," Victim said, dropping the papers on the table in disgust. Verdant stood in front of them, looking slightly green around the gills.
"The government funds them. Do you think they would allow such experiments?" Victim questioned, his voice filled with disbelief. "Perhaps," Agent replied uneasily. Despite being a mercenary and having witnessed numerous acts of violence, there was something particularly repulsive about the idea of such experimentation. Victim sighed heavily, then picked up the tablet again.
"Verdant, I want you to watch all of this footage and provide me with a detailed report on each one. Can you do that?" Victim asked the dark green stick. Verdant nodded in response. "Yes, of course," Verdant affirmed, taking the tablet from Victim's hand. "I'll add an additional payment to your compensation. Now, get to work," Victim instructed as Verdant left the office.
