chapter v
" We face our fortune "
What seemed like a small store was actually much larger once you walked inside. There were candles literally everywhere. Crystals hanging from the ceiling, plants placed from the very entrance to the back doorframe.
Maeve's eyes caught an LED sign on the left wall next to, you guessed it, more plants. 'Psychic Past Present Future'. It did earn a silent chuckle from Maeve but she quickly changed demeanour when she caught a figure walking to them.
"Welcome to the curious," a woman greeted, pushing the crystal curtains aside as she walked into the main entrance of the store. Maeve walked over to Billy, not sure if she wanted to protect him or the other way around.
Agatha gasped, hugging herself with her cloak. "Good day, madam," Agatha exclaimed in desperation, "Oh. Thank you so much for seein' us. We are hopin' for a miracle today."
Maeve and Billy exchanged stares, trying to swallow down their laughs and hearing Agatha speak in a southern accent.
Agatha placed a hand behind Maeve's back, slightly pushing her forward. "This is my girl, Georgia," Agatha explained. Georgia. That's a perfect name for a Hispanic girl. The woman quickly moved on to Billy, "And my boy, Beauford."
Billy, about to say something, was met with Agatha's hand covering his mouth. She chuckled softly, "He doesn't talk much. He's got social anxiety."
Maeve placed one hand on Billy's arm and placed her head on his shoulder, trying to compose herself before bursting into laughter.
"His daddy recently passed, and we miss him somethin' awful," Agatha continued further, walking closer to the older woman. "And we surely would love to commune with him today."
Agatha held up her hand in front of the teens, forcing them still. She walked a few steps ahead and leaned to the woman. "But to be quite frank with you," she sort of whispered before looking over her shoulder, "what is top of mind is the location of some gold bars he may or may not have buried in our backyard."
The older woman, yet hesitant, motioned to the round table, "Please."
"Thank you! You're a doll," Agatha exclaimed and with both hands grabbed Maeve and Billy by their wrists, pushing them toward the table.
The round table had a crystal ball on top of it, probably from eBay for two dollars. Maeve was the first to sit down on the chair on the left, next to her Billy, and next to him Agatha. Opposite them sat the older woman.
"How will you be paying?" The woman asked Agatha. Agatha turned to Maeve who shook her head and pointed to Billy. Billy, in the middle, turned first to Agatha and then to Maeve, his expression echoing his current mentality; so done with everything, specifically them.
Maeve forced a chuckle, "Bubba's got it." She wrapped an arm around Billy, shaking him lightly and rubbing his arm while a forced smile rested on her lips.
"Debit works," the woman said, sliding a mobile POS towards Billy. Billy remained silent, taking out of his pocket his wallet and his card. Is there anything that Billy doesn't have in his pockets? If Maeve asks for a hairbrush, she bets he is going to give her own.
"Your husband was a proud man," the woman started, moving her hands up and down the crystal ball.
Agatha nodded, "Indeed, he was."
"Did he golf?" Agatha gasped loudly, almost making Maeve having a heart attack. Maeve placed her hand over where her heart was, turning her head to the woman with a 'Are you okay' look.
