Adam's POV

My eyes opened to find a grey light coming from somewherein the room... room? Where was I? I sat up and gazed around. Sofia sat against the wall, holding her shoulder. Her shoulder was darkened with... blood?

"Sofia?" I murmured, trying to stand. Her eyes landed on me, but she made no atempt to move. "You okay?"

"Jaxon's men are good at aiming." As I got closer, I smelt silver. Dark circles rimmed under her eyes.

"You were shot?" I asked, sitting in front of her. Her face held a coldness I had never seen. Reaching out, she slapped my hand away.

"Just don't. Go rest, we will be leaving once the sun is up." I sighed.

"What happened? I can't remember anything past couple of days ago, when we were on the run." The second Sofia had freed her mother's heart, Jaxon ordered her death. Naturaly, I fought with Sofia.

"You hit your head, hard," she said, looking to the covered window again. "It's been days since you were last awake, and I have been saving our asses." I sighed. A lot of help I have been. Reaching out, I made her face me. When she tried to pull away, I snarled. She froze, her eyes grew wide. I gently pushed off her coat.

Anger rushed through me. Embeded deep in her skin was a bullet. I helped her stand, then removed her shirt. Sofia didn't fight back. As gentle as I could, I laid her back on the bed.

"Love, I am sorry... this is going to hurt." She huffed and squeezed her eyes closed. Clentching my teeth together, I dug into her shoulder, feeling for the bullet. My skin seared the moment I touched it. I yanked it out, and dropped it on the floor. Her body relaxed instantly, and she sighed.

"Thank you." She sat up, then paused. I had yet to move, so her path to get up and move away was blocked. Her eyes connected with mine. "Adam..." I dropped my knees between hers.

"Before... you and I were perfect. What happened to that?"

"You became dead weight."

"I am sorry. I never meant for that to happen. All I wanted was to help my mate."

"Your mate?!" She burst, growling. "I am not your mate. Matter of fact, the only reason I haven't killed you myself is because you haven't done anything to me. Now that you are awake, I am going to leave you to fend for your self. We are NOT mates." I leapt at her, pinning her to the bed.

I held her two hands above her head with one hand, and reveiled my mark on her hip.

"See this? It's marks you as MINE. As my MATE. The only reason my mark could have truely taken hold would be because you also wanted it! WE ARE MATES." She closed her eyes, and gave up. It was as if Sofia had no more fight within her. I let go of her hands and positioned myself over her.

Sofia's POV

Adam gazed down at me. I loved him. Deep down, I knew that. Even though my words to him were harsh, I never meant them. I thought that maybe if he thought I didn't care, he would leave, and be safe. But I should have known better. When he defied Jaxon, for me, I should have known he would have been there for me.

"Sofia," he murmured. I couldn't resist anymore. I leaned forward and kissed him. As he kissed me back, he rolled us over. The pressure of our bodies was off of my body, and the pain disapated for the most part. When I hissed at the sudden pain in my shoulder, our kissing stopped. He looked up at my shoulder, and took a deep breath.

"How are we going to patch up your shoulder?" I shurgged.

"I don't know." The sun began to shine outside. "But we must leave. We'll reach my parents here soon."

Drake's POV

I paced around, my tailing whipping behind me. Skylie stared at the fire. Sofia should have returned by now!

"Drake, relax. She will be fine. Sofia's our child, remember? And I have my heart back... if that is not proof enough, then I don't know what is," Skylie said. I nodded and looked at the fire. A howl rang out, and I knew it instantly. I tossed my head back and howled.

Sofia flew into sight. Her mother hugged her as I shifted and yanked on a pair of shorts. I took her in my arms next.

"Mom, Dad, there is someone I want you to meet. You can come out now." A young man approached us. He held the same aura as my daughter, and I knew he was also a half breed.

"Hello, I am Adam." We shook hands. Good, I thought, a strong grip.

"I am Drake."

"And I am Skylie." My mate shook his hand next. Sofia hugged her mother again, and I saw something as her shirt slightly lifted. I took many deep breaths.

"Sofia, is there something you need to tell us?" I asked through my teeth, looking at her hip. She took a step back, and took Adam's hand.

"Skylie, Drake, I have mate."

She lifted her shirt and showed us the mark on her. Adam's mark...

No!
