The days leading up to the homecoming dance felt like they were dragging on forever. Haerin found herself looking at the calendar more than once a day, counting down the hours until the event. She wasn't sure why it was on her mind so much. It wasn't like she was actually excited about the dance. But there was something about the whole situation that kept pulling her in. The way Danielle had looked at her the other day—like maybe she 'wasnt' the smug, untouchable girl, she always thought her to be. It didn't help that Hyein had practically 'shoved' her into buying a dress.
"Come on, Haerin you can't show up in your hoodie and jeans,"
Hyein had argued as she dragged her into a boutique a few days ago."You're going to regret it if you don't at least 'try' to look like you care."
Haerin had reluctantly agreed, though she was more than ready to escape the sparkling sequins and over-the-top dresses that seemed to fill the store. After much internal debate, she'd settled on a simple, white with gradient of baby blue that hung just above her knees. It wasn't too flashy, but it was definitely a far cry from her usual school uniform of jeans and a T-shirt.The night of the dance arrived, and Haerin stood in front of the full-length mirror in her bedroom, studying herself. The dress fit well enough, and she liked how the color made her eyes pop. But when she turned left, then right, she still couldn't shake the feeling that she was... out of her element.
