It's a beautiful morning when Lan Zhan’s driver turns into Wei Ying’s road, on the day after the wildly unpredictable engagement party. They're just parking up when a purple motorbike zooms past them at a frightening speed before screeching to a halt, right outside Wei Ying’s home.
Lan Zhan’s driver hurries out to open the door just as the man on the motorbike takes off his purple helmet and dangles it off one of the handlebars, shaking out his hair and simultaneously kicking the stand to keep it upright.
It's the angry man from last night, the one Lan Zhan’s Uncle removed from the venue. Lan Zhan feels a frisson of petty joy at the memory before he hurries in after him. He glances at the purple and black monstrosity parked like an eyesore in his way; it has ‘Zidian’ written across the body in a purple and white lightning font. Lan Zhan grimaces.
As he gets closer to the door, he can already hear raised voices.
“What the fucking hell, Wei WuXian! Did you stop to think for, I dunno, maybe a single second, what if I don't do this stupid dumb shit idea, huh? What if I rein in the crazy for once, huh?”
Lan Zhan enters the house easily because the angry blueberry didn't bother closing the door behind him, and now Wen Qing has grabbed a sleepy A-Yuan and is taking him out of the room. She brightens gratefully when she catches a glimpse of Lan Zhan, but she's in a protective mode at the moment, and busy tucking A-Yuan’s face into her shoulder so he's not scared any more. A-Yuan must have been sleeping when his rest was interrupted, and Wei Ying looks similarly dishevelled with an alluring black tank top and a pair of red shorts that are, like, short-short.
Just for a second, Lan Zhan’s brain stops working.
This is not fair.
Lan Zhan has to drag his eyes away from all of that smooth sun-kissed golden skin, those lean thighs that would probably feel softly divine under his fingers, and when he looks up, Wei Ying is giving him a small wave before turning back to the violet disaster.
That action then leads the purple grape to turn around in irritation and scowl at him! Him, who has just entered what is apparently, a war zone.
Lan Zhan forces himself to think about soft A-Yuan dressed in his baby blue bunny onesie, upset and close to tears because of this grown ass man resembling an angry fruit. He can feel his own anger growing in response to everything he's seen so far.
Wei Ying is pacing and running a lovely hand through his hair at sporadic intervals, clearly thinking about whatever this guy is saying.
Then Wen Qing comes back, and she's pissed.
“Jiang WanYin,” she says in a frighteningly cold voice, all the more terrifying because she sounds calm but her huge chocolate eyes are spitting fire. “Wei WuXian isn't the only one who lives here. You just woke up my cousin, so you better have a good excuse for your behaviour. Otherwise, I'm kicking you out. Understand?”
“A-Yuan?” Wei Ying asks her, his gaze flickering between this man and his sister.
“With A-Ning,” she tells him, before turning her attention to the Mauve Problem. “Now, what makes you think you can come into MY house and mess with MY Didi?” In a brilliantly brave move, Wen Qing plants herself right in the thick of it, between Wei Ying and Jiang WanYin.
The name triggers a recognition in Lan Zhan’s brain.
This is Wei Ying’s supposed brother.
Immediately, Lan Zhan goes to stand next to Wen Qing, effectively facing off against the Puce Irritation. She gives him a brief approving glance and then in an unspoken unity, they both stare at Jiang WanYin with an unimpressed glare.
