A/N
This is a one shot story for @Taylorswiftalwyn who asked me to write something with lots of pining between WangXian and a surprise meeting, preferably without a lot of angst. I believe letter writing was involved so I modernised it a bit, and I hope you don't mind.
So...here goes:
*************
So Suddenly
On the morning of Wei Ying's eighteenth birthday, his parents, Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze, sit him down in front of them with an envelope. He eyes it suspiciously because he knows his mother too well.
"What's that?"
"Um...so, A-Ying...YingYing...there's something we probably should have mentioned before," his mother glances at his father with a nervous smile, before continuing, "it's just that we didn't think too much about it at the time. You know, when somebody you used to really annoy, and possibly shaved-"
"Allegedly." Wei Changze quickly interrupts.
"Ha! That's right, allegedly, shaved their beard off for um, reasons, when they mention marriage and their nephew-"
"The second one."
"Yes! Very Important! The second one, and there might have been a verbal agreement, which as you know, probably shouldn't be taken seriously, but it's a-"
"Legally binding contract."
His mother just laughs nervously and stares back at Wei Ying, the fierce pleading in her dark eyes willing him to understand, to make sense of the bizarre garbled mess coming out of her mouth. Wei Ying can feel a headache coming on. Why does he have to be the responsible one, here? Isn't that his father's job? And since his dad seems the calmer of the two, he decides to ask him what the fuck is going on.
"What is the legally binding contract? What have you two done now?" Wei Ying narrows his eyes at his father when he blushes. Honestly, who is the child here?
Wei Ying isn't stupid. He's been around these two chaos personified supposed adults for all of his life and no two days have been the same. He knows that his mother is batshit crazy (affectionate) and his dad is stupidly crazily (also affectionately) in love with her. If that emotion is squared and times a hundred, then they're both equally loopy in love with each other, and he's the byproduct. That still doesn't explain what they're trying to tell him, though.
"Okay, here's what I got, and hang on for a sec," he says, fetching a third cup of coffee, because whatever this is, he's going to need all his cylinders firing. Sitting down in front of them, he chugs down the nectar of the Gods and straightens his spine. Lifting one finger, he continues, "You've done something bad, because you called me YingYing. You never do that, number one. Number two, you're nervous, both of you. Usually, it's just you," he not-glares at his mother, who actually blushes, and that's the third sign because she's so thick faced usually that nothing fazes her, "But this time, you're in it together." His third finger goes up to commemorate his fabulous detection skills (but that's entirely because he's been on his toes around them since he learned to walk, literally). "And number four, you said 'legally binding contract'. So...you've promised someone, who you might have shaved-"
"Allegedly," his dad points out helpfully, again.
"Allegedly, shaved off their beard," Wei Ying fights for control because fucking, really? That's what his dad is concerned about?? "And so you promised them something and because of the-"
"Legally binding contract."
Wei Ying glares at his dad for interrupting again until he gestures sheepishly for him to continue.
