(Y/n)'s POV
I was sitting on the cold floor of the basement. My eyes were puffy from all the crying. I couldn't believe that the man I loved, the one who was always on my side had a horrible secret. It hurt my heart to know this information. I don't know if it was better if I didn't know this, if I lived in a blissful ignorance. I sobbed once again about the thought. When did he even begin?
Suddenly I heard the front door bang upstairs. I freeze as I heard the heavy footsteps were going to the kitchen. My heart was racing while I listened to where he was walking. He was doing something in the kitchen. Every once in a while, he was walking around, and every step made my heartbeat faster. After what felt like hours the footsteps walked towards the basement door.
I stood up and looked around the basement. I see the crawlspace that we had at the back of the basement. I get up and run over to it and open it. It was full of dust and spiderwebs, but I didn't care. I didn't want to face him right now. I crawl in there and close the door behind me. I slump at the back corner of the little space and look at the door. It was only a few feet away from me, but I felt safe about the distance.
I hear the lock click as the door open with a creak. I hear the heavy steps come down the basement steps while he was humming. "Honey! I'm home!" He sounded cheerful, like this wasn't a nightmare of the situation. "You must be hungry huh? I brought your favorites! Chinese food and pizza! I even brought you so many soft drinks that you would be bursting with energy! You know since our little ones need to have their own share!"
I feel my breathing grow faster as I hear his footsteps go in the middle of the dark dusty room. "I have water too." His voice wasn't as cheerful as before. "Honey... you know I love to play hide and seek but I just want to see your sweet face." His voice tried to be nice, but it had venom dripping from it. I try to calm my breathing. He was clearly looking around the damn room, trying to spot me.
I hear him put whatever he had in hands down with a cold chuckle. "Oh babe, you are one funny little thing." I hear him slowly walking towards the small door. "You little rabbit!" He says cheerfully as the footsteps stop at the door. "You wouldn't be here, now would you?" I hear him touch the doorknob. "(Y/n)~, would you please open the door for me?" His voice sounded cheerful, but I could hear the coldness from it.
The door opens painfully slowly which made my heart rate grow faster. I didn't see anything at the opening but the dim light. I feel the tears roll down my cheeks. Suddenly the horrifying screaming mask comes in view which makes me scream bloody murder. I hear him laugh at that as he enters the little space too. "Oh look, the fox got into the rabbit's burrow. How amusing!" He says as he takes my wrist in his hand.
I trash around as he pulls himself closer to me. He takes both of my hands and lifts them over my head. He chuckles as the mask presses on my neck. "Mmmmh... you smell so good." He whispers as he presses himself on me. "I like how feral you are now. Like fighting for your life." I try to push him off me but he's way too strong. "Danny, let me go!" I scream at him as I try to wiggle free.
Suddenly he gets off me and starts to drag me from my wrists to the room. I scream as if it feels like my hands are going to break. He drags me into the middle of the room and then let's go of me. "As much as I would like to blow off some steam by letting myself go and claiming your body like it belongs to me, but you have to eat." He says as he walks over to the little tool table that we have in the basement.
He picks up a box of Chinese food and walks over to me. He offers me the box which I take. "T-thank you." I stutter as I open it. Danny chuckles and sits in front of me with his own box and takes off the mask. He puts it next to him carefully, like he was afraid that it would break. "Hmm, smells so good! Dig in darling!" He says with a big, sweet smile.
I started to eat. I didn't think that I was that hungry but when the food hit my tongue, I felt like I hadn't eaten in a lifetime. "So, what do you think?" He asks with a curious look. I force a smile on my face and nod. "It's good, thank you." He smiles before taking another bite from his meal. He was like before. His innocent self. Like he wasn't the murderous maniac that has made my life a living hell.
"Everything okay honey?" He suddenly asked. Everything okay? Okay?! No, nothing is okay! He acts like he doesn't care about what happened before. "Y-yeah, everything is just fine!" I try to sound cool which makes him nod. "Good! We just have to bring a bed down here since I can't have you sleep on the floor. Good thing that we got a house that has a bathroom in the basement." He was so casual.
I stopped for a moment. Bed? Down here? "Why do we need a bed down here? I have a bed upstairs?" He looks at me with a blank expression. "(Y/n) I can't trust you just yet to be up there while I'm all vulnerable! I can't have you run away from me." He said it so casually, almost like he was talking about the weather. It was so disturbing.
He takes another bite from his food while looking at me. "So, what did you do while I was gone?" He tilts his head to the side with a little smirk. Like he knows that I couldn't do anything interesting in here. "Nothing, really." I say sheepishly, shifting my eyes away from his dark eyes that were looking right to my soul. Those eyes which once were filled with love, looked like predator's eyes now.
"Hmm... We should get you something here so you wouldn't be bored while I'm gone. Some books, TV and maybe something like a gaming system. Would you be happy with that darling?" I force a smile on my face and nod. "I would love something like that honey!" He seemed to be thrilled by my reaction, happily eating his food. "Then I shall get them to you."
I turn back to eat my food. I didn't realize how hungry I was. An awkward silence filled the room. "I have to ask you something." His words cut through the silence like a knife. Suddenly I felt the hair at the back of my neck raise up. His words... They were emotionless. "A-ask away my love." My shaky voice made him turn towards me, his face now void with any emotion. "Are you afraid of me?"
His question surprised me, making my eyes turn to the floor of the basement. Afraid? Of him? Of course I was, but at the same time I knew deep in my heart that he wouldn't do anything to hurt me that badly. Let alone kill me. I thought about my words for a while before I looked back at him. "Right now, I am. But I know that you wouldn't hurt me. And if you did, I would deserve it." I tried to soften the blow.
He looks at me for a moment, not moving at all. "I understand." He suddenly says before he puts his food down. He moves towards me and sits right next to me. I flinch as he wraps his arms around me and brings me in for a hug. The embrace which once felt warm and welcoming, felt cold like it was demanding my warmth. I freeze in my place as he nuzzles his face against my neck.
"I have killed for you, spilled blood of those who try to keep us apart." He puts his hand over mine, brushing his long fingers with mine. "Do you miss them, those who's lives I have sacrificed for our beautiful love?" I feel a lump in my throat. I... missed them. They were my family even if they didn't act like it. There... There could have been a different kind of ending with all of us. Mabe a chance of us being a family?
"I... I don't miss them, I only need you." I lied, hoping that he wouldn't notice it in my voice. He nods before he stands up. "I know." He said before he started walking towards the basement door. "I'll bring the sofa here for now, after that we can go to the shower together." With that, he left, leaving me with doubt in my mind. Did he believe my words?
