"happy anniversary, babe." eli called out, his voice riddled with a morning rasp. gioia stepped out of the bathroom, her eyes growing wide— she assumed he was still asleep. a smile grew on her face. "good morning! and happy anniversary." she grinned.

he mirrored her smile, opening his arms to silently ask for an embrace. taking him by surprise, she rushed over to him and tackled him onto the bed. "holy shit." he grumbled as his head was pushed further into the blanket.

"someone's excited." hawk laughed. she nodded, sitting up straighter so that her legs were straddling around him. "i'm super excited. today's going to be great— it's our anniversary, miguel and j-johnny are back soon, kenny's coming too, and we have the chance to move forward in the competition."

"have i ever told you i love how optimistic you are?" he questioned. "seems like your mood is a 10 out of 10?"

gioia nodded in agreement. "10 out of 10." she grinned. hawk pushed himself up into a sitting position, placing a hand on either side of her hips to readjust her and softly grunting as he did.

she tilted her head, staring at him with a smile. "can you believe it's been a year? it feels like just yesterday miguel had texted you on my phone to come over." she sighed blissfully.

"yeah... and then you told me not to come in because you were naked." hawk added. gioia groaned at that memory, "no idea why i said that." she sighed.

"wait... miguel was the one who texted me?" hawk questioned, having a delayed reaction to her words. gioia nodded with a mischievous smile on her face, "guess that makes him a match maker, right?" she asked.

hawk shrugged. "huh, i guess so. also, when do you want to do gifts?" he questioned.

gioia's face fell. "wait, i thought we weren't doing gifts?" she asked, a distraught look on his face. hawk immediately felt guilty, wanting nothing more than to take back what he had said. "shit, yeah. no, you're right. we aren't doing gifts." he nodded.

there was silence for a moment before gioia burst out into laughter. "gotcha! should've s-seen your face. you felt terrible for me, it was so cute." she gushed.

hawk groaned, twisting his body around and pushing her backwards so that it was her back against the bed. "you scared the shit out of me." he sighed.

gioia shrugged with an innocent smile. "that's what i do best." she stated. hawk rolled his eyes at her before he allowed her large smile to sink into his mind.
