"The letter incident"
Ryomen Sukuna x Reader
Just something mildly creepy, but it's fluff ig

___________

Honk!

A breath forced its way into your lungs as the noise echoed down the street in front of you, your feet moving faster than your mind as you backed up onto the crossing. With wide eyes you watched the red truck that almost hit you speed past, your heart pounding against your chest. This is how it had been all day. You hadn't been able to pay attention to a single thing- your mind seemingly lodged on a strange letter you had received in the mail that morning.

The envelope looked almost like it had been aged for centuries, sealed with a burgundy red wax stamp. When you had opened it, the energy that flowed through your hands the second you touched the paper managed to get your hairs standing on end. It had taken a moment for you to realise it wasn't a cursed object, strangely however, it appeared to be that of a love confession.

As your eyes tore into the words, you felt your heart beating in the most inconsistent rhythm. A lump had caught in your throat, a new feeling of being watched crawling up your back with every word. Whoever this was, had been watching you. Whoever this was, had to be fucking crazy.

'To my beloved,

(You know not yet how much I ache for you.)

The river bends differently now, in ways that are unfamiliar and yet entirely too nostalgic. I find myself walking along it more often, the same path we once shared long ago—back when time didn't steal the love from us, back before everything had become so... empty. The Kamo River, once a place of fleeting joy, is now nothing more than a reminder of everything lost to me. But you... You don't know it yet, do you?

You, the one who walks in the shadow of her spirit, the one whose very presence makes my heart twist in ways I thought long buried. She's in you, isn't she? I can feel her, hidden beneath your silence, beneath the façade you so carefully keep. You think you are your own person, but I know better. Every moment I spend watching you, observing your movements, I can see her. I can feel her.

When I look at you, I see her—her eyes, the same fire that burned before, the same softness that would've consumed me had I been weaker. And yet, you do not return my gaze. It's as if you're blind to the truth, blind to the power that courses through your veins, blind to the connection between us, between me and her. I could reveal it to you, of course, but you would only recoil. So I wait. I wait and I watch, as you continue to roam the earth, unknowingly tethered to me.

I am not blind. I do not suffer the petty illusion of distance like you do. My eyes are sharp. I see everything. I see the way you flinch when the cursed energy swirls too violently, the way you stiffen when I am near. I see the fear, the small part of you that senses the truth—but you cannot know it yet. Not until the moment is right. Not until you feel it too—the inevitable pull of destiny.

Do you ever wonder why the air grows heavier when you are near the Kamo River? Have you felt the unsettling shiver down your spine when you walk through the trees at the edge of the water? That is not a mere coincidence. That is me. I have always been there, watching from the shadows, waiting for you to feel the same—a connection you cannot name. A connection you cannot yet fathom.

Yet still, you walk through your life unaware, untouched by the gaze that lingers on you so often, even when you are with others. You think you're alone in the world, don't you? You think you're just another cursed soul caught in the tide of sorcery, struggling to survive. But you are so much more than that. You have always been more than that. I have been watching you from the moment I sensed the stirrings of her spirit in you, from the moment you unknowingly carried her essence with you.

How dare you not notice me.

You are the one who carries the legacy of the one I loved. You are the one who will complete the broken pieces of her soul, the one who will allow me to see her again. But only if you allow it. Only if you open your eyes and accept what has always been true- what will always be true.

You think your power is something you control, but it is mine to command. That cursed technique of yours, that whispered connection you share with her, it is only a glimpse of what I can offer you. I could make you understand, make you feel what she felt for me in ways you would never dream of. But only if you stop pretending that you do not see me. Stop pretending that you don't feel the weight of my presence.

You are not free. You never were. You are mine, and I will not let you walk away from me. From her. There is no escape from what the two of us are bound to become. You, like her, belong to me. And when you finally see that, when you finally know the truth- when you see the darkness of our bond, the darkness of my love for you—I will have you, body and soul.

I wait patiently. I wait because I know you will come to me, eventually. When you realize that there is no other way, no other person who could ever compare to the hold I will have over you. The ties that bind us, that bind her to me, cannot be severed. They are eternal.

You will see. And when you do, when you look into my eyes, you will know that you belong to me.

Until then, my sweet one, I will wait. I will wait for the day you return my gaze, for the moment you finally see the truth of what is between us.

Until that day, know this—
I have never stopped watching, I have never stopped waiting.

You belong to me.

Sincerely,
Ryomen Sukuna'

A shiver crept its way up your spine at the memory, your gut twisting and your mind racing with itself. More than once, you thought it would have been best to tell Gojo about this. However, for some odd reason, you couldn't find the nerve to spill it to him. Instead letting the letter remain a strange incident, one that you hoped to forget. Even if he would never stop waiting, even if he never stopped watching.
