Read and Enjoy♡Days passed . The room was bathed in the soft glow of the late afternoon sun, casting long shadows across the floor.
The faint hum of the city outside seemed distant, almost irrelevant, as Advik and Aanvi sat on their bed, facing each other. The weight of the conversation that had been building for weeks now hung heavily between them.
Advik's eyes were fixed on his wife, his expression a mix of concern and love. Aanvi sat with her hands in her lap, her fingers tightly interlaced as if holding herself together. Her eyes were downcast, avoiding his gaze. He could sense the tension in her—her reluctance, her fear, her quiet grief.
"Advik," she said, her voice soft, almost fragile. "I've been thinking... about.... About the adoption." She paused, biting her lip, as though gathering the courage to say more. "I don't know if I can do this."
Advik swallowed hard, his chest tightening. He had expected her to feel conflicted, but hearing the vulnerability in her voice made the reality of it hit him harder than he anticipated.
"What do you mean?" he asked gently, his voice barely above a whisper. He reached out, his hand resting on hers, offering his silent support.
She looked up at him, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "I can't carry a child, Advik. I can't give you that... that experience. I can't give you the family we always dreamed of in the way I thought I could." Her voice cracked at the last word, and she quickly wiped her eyes, though the tears had already started to fall.
Advik's heart twisted at the sight of her tears, at the pain he knew she had been carrying for so long. He squeezed her hand, his thumb brushing over her knuckles in a soothing gesture. "jaan," he said softly, "You don't have to carry a child to be a mother. You are already one in every way that matters."
But she shook her head, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. "It's not the same, Advik. You know it's not. I've always dreamed of carrying our child—feeling them grow inside me, hearing their heartbeat, watching them take their first breath. And now... I can't even give you that. I feel like I've failed you."
Advik felt a lump form in his throat. He had seen her wrestle with these feelings of inadequacy before, but hearing her voice them so openly, with such rawness, made him realize just how deeply she had been hurting.
"You're not failing me jaan," he said, his voice trembling with emotion. "I don't need you to carry a child to feel like a family. I don't need some perfect vision of how things are 'supposed' to be. What matters is that we're in this together. That's what I've always wanted. I want us—I want you, with all of your strength, your love, your heart. We'll find our way, no matter how it looks. We will."
She looked at him, her eyes searching his face as if looking for a lifeline. But the doubt was still there, flickering in her gaze. "But what if I can't love them the way I would if they were my own? What if... what if it's not enough?" Her voice quivered as she spoke, the fear she had been holding back finally breaking through.
Advik's heart broke for her. He could see the battle inside her, the self-doubt, the fear of not being enough. It wasn't just about the adoption—it was about her feeling like she couldn't measure up, like she was missing something fundamental.
He leaned forward, his hand gently cupping her face, lifting her gaze to meet his. "You have more than enough love, jaan. You've always had it. It doesn't matter whether a child comes from us, or if we adopt. What matters is that love will be there, and we will build our family on that love. You don't have to be perfect, because you already are enough. You are more than enough for me—and you will be for our child, too."
