The cabin had settled into the kind of peace you only sensed before a storm—literally and metaphorically. The tension in the air so thick that I could almost physically feel it: Min Ho and Dae sat at a table glaring defiantly at Jin, who was standing uneasily next to Q. I was supervising the children.
Praveena approached me, seeming worried. "Hey," she told me under her breath. "I'm getting kind of worried about Kitty. I haven't seen her in a while, and she keeps running off to the bathroom. Maybe she has Q's... stomach thing."
I blinked, immediately catching onto what she wasn't saying. Right. That's not normal.
"I'll go check on her," I assured, already walking away.
Praveena gave me a small, grateful smile. "Thanks."
I wove my way past the others and made my way to the bathroom. I knocked lightly once on the door, waiting only a moment before pushing open the bathroom door.
Inside, Kitty stood near the sink, her arms wrapped around herself as if she were trying to hold herself together. Her face was pink and puffy. She looked up when I entered, her voice barely audible.
"Hi," she mumbled dejectedly.
I sighed, my heart sinking at how hopeless she seemed. Instinctively, I stepped forward and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her into a tight hug. "Oh, Kitty."
She trembled slightly against me. "I should have known better," she said tearfully. "Yuri said that—" Her sentence trailed off, and I didn't need her to finish to know what had happened.
I pulled back, squeezing her shoulders. "Hey, forget about her. We're over her, remember? Praveena's out there, and she actually likes you back. Come on, pull yourself together."
Kitty sniffled, nodding weakly, and I gave her an encouraging pat. "Let's go," I urged, "before Min Ho and Dae start hanging Jin from the ceiling fan. I don't want to miss that!"
She let out a small laugh. "Okay, okay, you're right."
I led the way back into the main area, where the tension had somehow gotten worse. Dae's glares were now practically slicing into Jin, who was trying his best to ignore everyone in the room. When I looked for Min Ho, however, I spotted Madison speaking to him in hushed whispers.
"...I'm sorry, Min Ho, but I do not feel comfortable with this!" she was whisper-shouting.
I paused mid-step, frowning. Likewise, Min Ho stood there, arms crossed, his expression blank.
Madison exhaled sharply, putting her hands on her hips. "We broke up ages ago and... Stella's a nice girl."
Min Ho's brows shot up in confusion. "What? There's nothing going on between me and Stella."
Obviously, I thought uncomfortably. Obviously, right? Why would Madison think that>
"Really." Madison's expression dripped with skepticism as crossed her arms. "Well, whoever it is now, you can't go around writing love letters to old flames!"
My pulse quickened upon hearing her words. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Min Ho's face twist in utter bewilderment.
"What on earth are you on about?" he asked, deadpan. "I didn't write you a letter."
Okay, I instantly decided, this is my cue to intervene. "Hey, guys," I chimed in. "What's going on?"
Madison turned to me with a dramatic huff, waving a piece of paper in the air. "It says right here, You are way more than the spoiled rich girl everyone else sees." She scoffed. "Okay, duh. That is so me-coded."
