Ari and Kay walked hand in hand into the small venue for Jo and Maya's engagement party. The room was filled with a mix of excitement and chatter. Jo wasn't the type many expected to get married, but with the baby on the way, he didn't want to do anything else but make it official with Maya.
The decorations were simple but elegant, with soft lights casting a warm glow over the room, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The soft hum of conversations mixed with laughter as people milled about, enjoying the night.
"Congratulations, Maya. I'm so happy for you," Ari said, smiling brightly as she gave her a warm hug.
"Thank you, beautiful. I should be saying congrats to you. Pregnancy looks so good on you," Maya grinned, rubbing her own six-month belly bump as she pulled back from the hug.
Ari smiled back, her hand resting on her four-month-old belly. "Thank you. It's been a ride, but I'm glad we're finally here. It's been a lot of change."
"Yeah, I bet," Maya said, her voice softening as she placed a hand on Ari's belly. "But you look amazing."
Dougie, who was standing nearby, watched them walk in with a grin and couldn't help himself. "Nigga, you always late to shit."
Kay chuckled, squeezing Ari's hand as he responded, "My fault. You know Ari, bro. But wassup? Congratulations, my boy." He dapped up his brother Jo.
"Thanks," Jo replied with a shy smile, glancing over at his fiancée, Maya, before turning back to Kay. "You ain't bring the kids?"
"Nah, we dropped them off at my mom's," Kay said with a shrug. "Not trying to deal with kids tonight. Trust me."
Dougie laughed, nodding in agreement. "Nah, deadass."
Kay looked over at Jo, noting his relaxed vibe, but his eyes lingered on Jo's face. "Nigga, you got the chillest son ever."
Jo chuckled, shaking his head. "Just say you tight, nigga's been tight all day."
Kay raised an eyebrow, confused. "For what?"
"Because Giselle's here," Jo said flatly, his gaze shifting toward the back of the room where Giselle stood talking to a few other guests. "You know I don't even speak to her like that, but Maya insisted on inviting her."
Kay glanced over at Giselle, his expression neutral. He had his own reservations, but he wasn't going to let that spoil the night. His eyes then shifted to Ari, who was busy taking a photo with Maya.
"Ari and her not friends anymore?" Dougie asked, noticing the lack of interaction between Ari and Giselle.
"I don't know, man. I haven't heard about Giselle in a minute," Kay responded, trying to stay neutral. "I'm just happy Ari's here. You know how it is. She's been keeping it lowkey with everything."
