RECAP OF PREVIOUS CHAPTER:
I had everything in line this time, and I would not let anything change that. It'd actually taken me a lot of persuading to get Anum to do this with me, but I sparked a hope for the truth in her. She was like my sister, and a promise I made to her was a promise I wouldn't break. I would, in any way, bring her the justice she deserved.
And the Lake was the first step.

CHAPTER 29: ANUM + OMAR?
I wiped a hand across my sweaty forehead, sighing aloud as Danyal and I finished setting up the food on the picnic sheet. It'd only been a few minutes or so, but this suddenly unexpected heat was really getting to me. Danyal grinned at me as he wiped his hands on his jeans.
"Too much work for the lady like?" he asked, brown eyes crinkling.
"Oh, please. Have you seen this?" I raised an eyebrow at him, pointing to my arms.
"What is there to see?" Danyal snickered.
I thought of a comeback, but ended up sticking up my middle finger at him. Suddenly, I felt a small hand on my shoulder, and I turned around.
"Can...can I talk to you?" Anum asked, glancing nervously between Danyal and I. A scarf was draped loosely around her head, masking a little bit of her face...but not enough to hide the dark circles. Anum swallowed and gave me a weak smile.
I felt my heart swell. "Yeah, yeah. Come." I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her aside.
I threw Danyal a sorry look behind my shoulder before I pulled Anum into a siding, and he nodded at me sympathetically.
She swallowed, bit her lip. "Misha...I don't think I can do this."
Glancing around, i made sure no one was in sight. The elders, Sarah's mom, Sarah and Jehan sat down right by the lake, talking and laughing. Omar was no where in sight, and Hikaya was by the car, loading the last of the things.
Looking back at Anum, I sighed, knowing this was gonna happen. "You can do this, Anum. You can do anything. And this? Look at you, this job is nothing hard. This is your one way ticket to justice, Anum. And hey, I'm doing this for you. So is Danyal. So gather up the courage and do it for YOURSELF too. I admit, I've been a nervous wreck in the past but hey, I'm planning things out now. Youve taught me how to. You've taught me to be organized and careful and compassionate. I've learned from you, now it's time you learn from me too. Let go, be a little careless. Be a little loud. GET what you WANT."
Anum started af me for a few seconds as I caught my breath from the utter rant. Slowly, I saw a bit of realization settle into her.
I stared at her, eyes pleading.
"Fine." She sighed, the flicker of a smile on her lips.
"Omar's not here. That's your cue. Here, let me call you." I fished out my phone from the pocket of my shalwar. Weird that there's a pocket there anyways, I know. I punched in Anum's number, and a ringing sound emerged from the bag slung over her shoulder. She fished her phone out, hit the green phone symbol, set it on speaker, and slipped her phone into the front open pocket of her bag, where you couldn't see the phone, but I'd be able to hear it.
"The elders, Sarah and Jehan and busy by the lake. Danyal and I are by the food. We'll be listening to you. You know what to say, okay? Just turn into me for a while." I winked at her, grinning. Anum looked up at me with a hopeful look on her face. Nervousness was etched all over her features aswell, but I didn't need to point that out.
Anum nodded at me once, then took in a deep breath and headed off, in the direction past me, looking for Omar.
I turned around and watched Anum walk towards the car. She turned to Hikaya, and through the phone I heard Hikaya say:
