The dim candlelight flickered inside the Hokage’s office, casting long shadows against the walls lined with mission reports and war documents. The air was tense, thick with unspoken words and raw emotions. Outside, the village celebrated its victory, but within these walls, a different battle was being fought.

Kushina slammed her hands onto Minato’s desk, her crimson hair flaring with her frustration. “Minato, you know choosing Natsu is a mistake! You know it! Naruto is the one who won this war! He fought, bled, and sacrificed more than anyone else!”

Minato, seated behind the desk, exhaled slowly, his fingers interlocked as he met her furious gaze. His voice was calm but heavy with exhaustion. “Don’t you think I know what he did, Kushina? I watched it all. But that’s exactly the problem.”

Kushina’s eyes narrowed. “What the hell do you mean by that?”

Minato leaned forward, his voice dropping to a grave whisper. “Naruto… has a dangerous way of thinking. For him, strength is everything. The strong do what they want, and the weak suffer as they must. He doesn’t believe in balance—he believes in power. And that belief… is dangerous.”

Kushina clenched her fists. “Then we fix it! He’s our son, Minato! We can reach him, we can—”

Minato shook his head, his blue eyes dark with something close to regret. “You think I don’t want to? I do, Kushina. I want nothing more than to bring him back from this path. But it’s not just about us. The village… they fear him. And he hates them just as much.”

Kushina’s breath hitched.

Minato continued, his voice quiet but firm. “Do you really believe the people of Konoha will ever accept him as Hokage? That they’ll follow someone they see as a monster? Even if we change Naruto… it won’t change the village’s hatred.”

Silence hung between them, the weight of reality pressing down like a suffocating force.

Kushina finally whispered, “And what about Natsu?”

Minato leaned back, rubbing his temples. “Natsu… has his flaws. He’s reckless, arrogant, and not nearly as strong as Naruto. But the village loves him. He can be shaped into a leader, someone they will follow.”

Kushina shook her head, disbelief in her voice. “So that’s it? You’re just going to let the village decide for us? Let them push Naruto aside after everything he’s done?”

Minato’s gaze hardened. “It’s not about letting them decide, Kushina. It’s about what’s best for Konoha. And right now… Naruto isn’t it.”

Kushina stared at him, searching for something—hope, doubt, regret. But all she saw was the weight of a leader’s decision.

And for the first time in a long time, she wasn’t sure she could stand by it.

The flickering candlelight did little to ease the heavy atmosphere in the Hokage’s office. Kushina stood with her arms crossed, frustration evident in her stance, while Minato remained seated, his expression weary but resolute. Outside, the sounds of celebration echoed through the village, but inside, only the sharp clash of their words filled the room.
