Zayn
"Lehcze Clark?"My head bobbed up. Her name was new to my ears, but it surely caught my attention. I scanned the room thoroughly, looking for the girl who would respond to her name being called. No one raised her hand, but someone did walk –or rather, run-- into the room.
"Sorry I'm late," she panted. I felt my jaw want to drop, but I did my best not to, since she was staring at me with her gray eyes, hinted with green. Her pale skin was complimented by dirty blonde hair with blonde highlights and bangs that go just past her eyebrows. She bit her lip as she noticed that I was looking back at her; my first reaction was to look away.
Our instructor simply nodded. "It's alright, Miss Clark. Please take a seat." I saw that he motioned to the empty seat beside me. So this was Lehcze, I thought to myself as she slipped into the chair beside me.
The lesson started, and I fixed my eyes on the whiteboard even if I wasn't paying attention. I put it all on the corner of my eye, where I could see Lehcze. Unlike me, she was focused on the lecture. Her eyes kept shifting from the writings on the board to her notebook. She nodded her head occasionally, signifying that she had understood what the instructor was saying.
I noticed that our instructor eyes glanced at me often, and I decided to pretended like I was writing. Since it was actually hard to pretend to write, I decided to actually write. I started to write the notes on the board. Being a pretty fast scribbler, I finished copying that immediately, and I had nothing left to write. Once again, I found my chin in my hands as I let out a sigh.
Suddenly, someone tapped my shoulder. "You're Zayn, right?"
I looked to my left - from where the tap came from - and this time, I couldn't hold my jaw from dropping anymore. I knew it was her, since this is the seat she sat in, but I guess I didn't expect that she'd notice me. Lost for words, I simply nodded. "I'm Lehcze," she whispered after she received a death glare from our instructor. "Talk to you later." She went back to her studying form, but she had a smile plastered on her face this time.
The class dragged on slowly, but it did eventually end. Everyone then bolted out of the room, excited for the weekend.
Once again, a tap landed on my shoulder just before I went out the room. "Zayn," her voice came in sync with her tap.
Lehcze stood behind me, a bubbly smile still on her lips. "Hey." That was all I managed to say as I drowned in her stare.
"Hi." Her exhale was heavy, and it came with her greeting. The two of us left the room, casually walking down the hallway towards... I don't know exactly; I just followed her.
"How'd you know my name?" I decided to ask her. It puzzled me since her name didn't ring a bell the first time I heard it, which was earlier today.
A flash of disappointment came to her face, but her smile didn't fall. "It's a long story." I felt her hand grab mine, and I momentarily froze, staring at our interlocked fingers. The feeling of her touch was foreign, but I accepted it. I looked back at her face, and tears seemed to well in her eyes. I smiled at her, hoping that I could comfort her with that.
"Let's go?" Her voice cracked.
"Sure," I agreed. I felt a deep sense of trust towards Lehcze that it surprised me. This was the first time that I've felt this way about anyone new in my life.
She tugged me, and I willingly followed behind her until we reached a peaceful park. There were couples, families and other people alone, but they could be counted by your fingers and toes. Lehcze inhaled deeply, closing her eyes as she did. "Do you remember this place?"
I looked around. "It seems familiar, but no." I inhaled too, letting the fresh air enter my system. It was calming and, again, familiar.
Lehcze half-smiled, her sadness evident now. "Of course you don't." She sighed and allowed a tear to fall.
"Hey, stop." I walked over to her. "Don't cry."
I tried to wipe the tear that ran from her eyes, but she flinched at my thumb's contact with her skin. She wiped both her eyes with her palms, but they didn't erase the tears that had already formed in them. "When will you ever remember?"
Seeing her like this pained me. Well, seeing anyone like this would have, but the pang in my chest was different with her. It left a pang in my chest, seeing that she's hurt but knowing there wasn't anything I could do. I felt helpless, looking at her cry but not even aware of the reason why. "What's wrong, Lehcze?"
Her eyes gave up at me saying her name. Her shoulders rose and fell heavily as she sobbed. I led her over to one of the benches in the park, keeping my arm around her as we sat down. "Stop, please. Please, Lehcze. Tell me what's wrong."
"N-nothing's ever been t-the same since y-your acci-dent." Lehcze words were uneven because of her crying, but I could understand them, literally. I couldn't quite read what she meant though her words were explicit. "I miss y-you, Zayn. I m-miss us."
"What accident?" I asked. She missed me? That was quite odd since I only met her this morning. Right? My mind questioned itself.
Lehcze shook her head, hands traveling to her pocket. She then brought out a photo, faced down. She gripped it tightly in her fingers, slightly crumpling it. Lehcze whispered something I didn't understand then sobbed harder. Before she could completely destroy it, I slowly pulled it away from her grip. I flipped it, revealing a picture of a beautiful, young Lehcze and...
Me?
"Zayn, stop it!" Lehcze managed to shriek in between her laughs.
"No way, love." I reached for her tummy, making her gigle again. For a couple of minutes, we wrestled each other on the carpeted floor of her room. Finally, the two of us grew tired and lay there panting.
"I hate you," Lehcze muttered under her breath, a playful tone in it indicating that she wasn't dead serious with her statement.
I groaned, sitting up and moving towards her. Lehcze smile got bigger as my face came into her view. "You like what you see?" I teased.
She giggled softly, covering her mouth a bit when she did. "I love what I see," she emphasized the word love so much that it gave me flutters in my stomach. Lehcze's head moved upwards a little, moving closer to mine. I made my face meet hers, until we eventually pressed our lips to each other. Her kiss was subtle, and I kept it that way, afraid to hurt her.
After that amazing kiss, Lehcze smiled once again. I've never seen her this happy. Because of that, I brought out my phone then took my spot beside her. I gave it my best smile too then snapped a picture of us. We viewed the photo, and Lehcze sighed beside me as we did. "I'm never going to forget this moment, you know." I assured her, turning my head to see my girlfriend's beautiful face.
"I know." She tilted her face so that she could see me too. Yep, I would definitely remember this moment forever.
"I remember, love."
My voice made her face move away from her hands. Her eyes were once again piercing into mine. "What do you remember?"
I put my arms around her tighter, and she buried her face in my chest. "Not everything, but it's a start, right? I emember you now, Lehcze."
I stroked her hair, assuring her that everything was going to be okay.
"I remember my girlfriend."
