Emilys POV
I stood in an awe. " Why can't we help them? Save them?" I asked. I turned towards the others, I wasn't the only one. They're were many angels sent to Boston today. I concentrated on all the runners running our way. I wanted to go stop it. I would do anything, but this isn't how it's supposed to happen. " Everything has a natural order." James said his wings gracefully falling. " It's happening now. Make sure to keep your glamour up. They can't see you unless they're dead. Emily, you take the dead ones, we will work on the ones that need to be saved." James said. I nodded letting out a sigh.
Tears brimmed my eyes as I saw a small boy walking up to me. I smiled at him. He walked over to and smiled. A funny look on his eyes. " You have very pretty wings." he stated. " Thank you." I smiled. " How old are you?" I asked. " I'm eight." he smiled. I let out a gasp. " What's happening? Why would someone want to do this?" he asked. Smart kid. " Hey. Do you wanna find my dad?" he asked.
" You'll see him soon, don't worry." I smiled. " Is that my nana?" he asked pointing behind me. " She died last year...... am I dead?" he asked. I nodded with a frown. " Why?' he asked. " I don't know. But, you'll be happy with your nana, your dad will be there to see you soon. I promise." I smiled. " Thank you pretty lady." he said. I nodded. " Take care of my daddy." he said walking towards the portal, a grey-haired lady smiling back at him.
Justins POV
I sat infront of the t.v. All I could think about was Emily and that stupd Carter kid. I remember the phone call, nothing after that. It was wierd right? I placed the icepack higher on my bullet wound and laid back on my bed, the news playing but the words blurred together. I sat up when Emily walked into my room. She stood quietly but a frown found itself on her plump pink lips.
" Em, what's wrong?" she asked. She shook her head she curled against my side. Her head rested against my good shoulder and she just cried. She didn't make a sound, but she was crying, I could feel her tears hitting my shirt.
" Em, did that stupid Carter kid hurt you? Because if he did-"
" No, everything is fine, just a long day." she lied. " Em"
"Please, I just need you right now." she stated. I sat up and she sat up with me. I slid my hand up the side of her face. Her skin so soft. I used my thumb to wipe her tears, but she just cried more.
" I wish I could just tell you! I hate lying to you, I hate it." she exclaimed. " Em, you know you can tell me anything."
Emilys POV
" I just.... I need a hug." I stated. He laughed and pulled me into a hug, his strong arms pulled me closer towards him. God, he smells good. Really good.
Should I tell him that I have feelings for him? I'm sure he doesn't love me back, I know he doesn't. Justin doesn't love anyone. At all. He is incapable of love. As many times as I tell myself this, I'm never going to be able to convince myself.--
Justins POV
I watched as Emily layed on my bed playing with her phone. She is so beautiful, her blonde hair cascading down her shoulders, vibrant green eyes staring at her phone with concentration. She gave a small smile on her phone. She continued to scroll through it as I pulled out my phone. A message from Emily. I opened the picture of her and read the caption. " You should take a picture, it'll laugh longer." it read. I laughed. " Alright." I said snapping a picture of her on my phone. She rolled her eyes.
" How come we never talk anymore?" she asked. I couldn't help but stare at her. " We are talking now." I stated. " Yes, but." she paused. " You put up these walls and act like you don't care about anything or anyone, but I can see that you do. You love your family and you never spend time with them or ask them how there day was." she stated. I laughed. " Emily, I'm not married to them. They are not my family. Hell, I don't even like them. I put up with them because it's my job." I stated. That wasn't true. It was a complete lie.
" Why is it so bad for you to admit you love someone. You wont have them for much longer, you're going to be even more alone than you are now. I'm sorry Justin. But I can't help you if all you do is push me away." she said standing up and pulling on her shoes.
"I'm incapable of love Em, what do you want me to do about it?" I asked. She scoffed. " You can't just live your life not giving a fuck Justin." she stated. " Don't you ever want to get married or have a family?" she asked.
" Emily. You don't get it." I hissed. " I can't. I'll never be able to have any of that. My life is too dangerous. You're my only friend Em. I'm not even sure family is a great thing anyway. There isn't a single perfect family on this Earth. It's overrated." I stated. I scratched the back of my neck mindlessly and she started crying.
" Emily, I don't understand. You wanted the truth." I stated. " Why are you hanging out with me if it's too dangerous Justin?" she asked, choking back a sob. " I have someone around you every hour of the day, watching you Emily." I stated truthfully.
" Why?" she said. " Because your my bestfriend." I stated simply. " You shouldn't be living your life like this." she stated. " Its been my life forever Em, I can't just leave. Don't you think I've wanted to do that for years? I can't. They find me. Everywhere I go." I hissed. I just.... like her more than friends. A lot more. All I want to do is hold her and have her body cradled next to mine.
" I'll make it easy for you, Justin. It's obvious that I'm becoming an issue for you." she started.
" Em, don't-"
" By Justin. I'll see you at school."
