CHAPTER TWENTY
Today is the final day of our singing unit in music class. The topic is duets. It was debated whether Cole and I should be partners or not, but eventually I decided to partner with Joey. He let me pick the song, so I decided on Hedley's For The Nights I Can't Remember. We both sat on the piano bench, him playing rhythms and me playing the melody. We had to write out who would be singing what lyrics and hand it to Mr. Moon before we started. It went like this:
Joey: I see it in the way you would do
Cassie: When no one else could ever get through

Cassie: Time and time again you wait for me to come in
Joey: And did you really look my way?
Cassie: 'Cause no one could've seen this coming
Joey: I would never let you down
Cassie: If I was running backwards in full time

Cassie: Me, I'm used to being tired and bloody/ But you believed that I could be somebody/ You put your world on hold for me/ Gave away to follow failure through the fire
Joey: But I need you to know I will/ Believe me girl I'm so tired of running/ I just wanna hold your hand/ Stare at you like you've got everything I need

Joey: And what if I never told you I'm afraid to cry?

Joey: And said I'm sorry for the nights I can't remember

Both: Hold back your tears this time, oh, oh
Of any song I've performed in this class, this means the most to me. Even more than when I sang Scars. It sums up the relationship I have with Joey- whatever our relationship is.
We ended the song with the piano, the class clapping and cheering. It was perfection. As we were standing up from the bench, Joey whispered in my ear "I love you."
