11. Solar Eclipse
Muse POV
"Little girl!" I yelled. She wasn't where I left her. In the distance, a sudden sound of chatter alerted me. I flew to the commotion. An ambulance was parked at a nearby street corner. There was a crowd around the place. I rushed through everyone. The little girl was being lifted onto a gurney. She was peacefully sleeping, I saw her chest rise and fall indicating that she was breathing.
I climbed into the ambulance after she was put in. The nurses were doing all this high tech stuff to check her. I took her hand in mine and kept her company.
We quickly arrived at the hospital. The little girl was put into a nice room. Her burns were being treated. She still slept. I sat in a chair next to her bed waiting for her to wake up. Eventually I dozed off too.
I felt something move by me. I slowly opened my eyes. The little girl was slowly waking up.
"Hey there sleepy head." I tell her.
"Hey Muse." She replies. "Woaw, where are we?"
"Um. In a hospital. The people of the city found you and called 911... I guess that's what happened." I tell her. "What's your name? I never found out."
"I'm Amanda."
"It's nice to meet you Amanda. How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay, just a little burning on my skin. I feel fine."
"That's good." As soon as I said that, the TV turned on with breaking news.
The lady on the news started to speak.
"There is supposed to be a solar eclipse tonight. It is going to block out the Sun completely from all angles of viewing from Earth. But there is a slight problem: the Moon is nowhere to be found. It's just gone. There is no new moon or any way it can blend in, it has disappeared. If you have any information about this, please inform us. The number is at the bottom of the screen. Please, any piece of information whatsoever. All astronomers are lost. This can be the end if the world. Please call the number if you have any information."
The program started talking about some scientific facts and acts about the eclipse itself. I blanked out during that part. My expression must have looked terrified. I turned to Amanda, she had the same kind of face.
"Where's Jack?" I ask her.
"He um... disappeared." She answered not taking her eyes off the TV.
"What about the other guardians?"
"I-I don't know. I think that they disappeared too."
"Oh no. No no no. This is not good. The Moon is gone. And it took the guardians with it. It couldn't sustain them anymore. Jack's gone." I thought I was about to cry.
The Sun popped into my head. It had a wicked smile on its face. "They're all gone Muse. Nothing left of them." It taunted me.
"Get out of my head!" I yelled at it. I got off the chair and started to walk out to the window. "I'll be back. You can't leave yet and this place is pretty safe."
"Okay." She replied.
I flew out the window and headed toward the North Pole. Nothing was going to stop me. But memories started to flow through my head. The cold wind beating on my face reminded me of Jack. 'No! Stay focused. If you don't stay focused you'll never get him back.' I told myself.
I entered the huge globe room. Only two lights were flickering on the globe. One was Amanda but I couldn't remember who the other one was, but whoever it was, he/she was in the same town.
