My various short stories, thoughts and headcannons about Love and Deepspace.
I publish them first in my tumblr blog ( link in bio), then with some delay here as well.
Content: pre-relationship, loosely based on his messages at Azure Echo Day 2025 "Mystery Puzzle" and Calebs Memory "Intertwined Gold"

"I wonder what role I should play in your life."
This sentence lingers in your mind since Caleb said it as a response to your invitation to spend Azure Echo Day with him. And since then you wreck your brain over it.
After reconnecting with him over the last weeks and months after you met each other again in Skyhaven, things have been different between the both of you. In the old days, the ones before the explosion of your former home, you two always were close. Caleb constantly cared for you, ready to give in to every whim of you. He was like a big brother, giving you a home and a family that you never had. He was your home and even his departure to the DAA to spread his wings couldn't cut or loosen up this connection. Instead, it altered, you haven't recognized it back then. But Caleb turned into more, something different. Where he was always the protector, the caretaker, the one who spoiled you to death - the loving big brother who also never failed to tease you, your feelings towards him changed.
He grew and with the change of his body into a muscular, broad, adult form and your perception of him also changed. You started to notice how handsome he was and how his biceps moved when he lifted you or how his abs twitched when you poked and tickled him in one of your silly fights over little things. Back then you started to get possessive over him, acknowledging that you are no siblings. Just two orphans were adopted into the same household. And with that, you got afraid that Caleb was going to be interested in other girls and forget about you.
But it never happened, Caleb did not once bat an eye towards any other girl. And you weren't fully aware of your feelings toward him, never thought too deeply into the connection you two shared.
He was just Caleb - your Caleb.
Then Grannie's house exploded and you mourned their loss, the only family you've ever known - vanished. And with it the connection to Caleb.
Suddenly you were all alone and nobody had your back anymore. Nobody helped you with your studies or tests. Nobody that went to the training grounds with you. Nobody that dried your tears when you broke down in your bedroom on the nights when you couldn't sleep. Nobody you could call after returning from a dangerous mission.
Until, after nearly a year, Caleb came back into your life. But your Caleb was still gone. Oh, you had back the silly and goofy boy you grew up with, but overshadowed with that new Caleb. The cold one, the one that tried to scare you, who didn't answer your every whim. Colonel Caleb. The altered Caleb that is controlled by Ever. The injured man who tried to hide his bionic arm from you.
But you also had changed in that time. You learned to master things on your own. To not rely on him anymore, instead, trust your own strength. You managed to live on your own, without the familiar safety net you always thought would catch you if you fell. No, you grew wings and learned to fly.
And still... There was still that connection, the mysterious bond that tethered the both of you together.
But of what nature was it now? And more important, would it be as stable and unbreakable as before?
What is Caleb to you now? Is he still yours? And more importantly, do you still want him to be yours?
The clearance struck you on New Year's Eve.
As Caleb whispers that familiar nickname, desperate, passionate, and full of unspoken desires. His lips are so close, merely inches away from yours. Only a little nod and you would have kissed him.
But you don't move. The shock courses through your every cell as you finally recognize what you have felt for so long.
Love. You love him. For who knows long. This discovery literally petrifies you, making you unable to ease the tension in your body to close the gap between your lips.
And Caleb interprets it in the most possible wrong way. And so you strengthen your connection again, to make him realize you are no longer the little girl he needs to protect. You're a grown woman and now you need him in another role, as your partner, your lover. Not as the brother he used to play to keep you safe.
Time to get it in that thick skull of your beloved Caleb. Because that's what he is, what he always was. The second half of you. The person you no longer want to be without.
