I leaned back in my chair, feeling the comforting weight of a full stomach and the warmth of good company settling over the room. The last of the savory dishes had been cleared away, bowls scraped clean, and chopsticks rested quietly on their plates. Atsumu let out a dramatic sigh, slumping back as if he'd just reached some kind of culinary nirvana.
"I think I just ascended," he groaned. "I can see my ancestors."
Mr. Miya chuckled, rubbing his belly. "Now that's how Christmas dinner should feel."
I laughed softly and started stacking the empty plates. "I'll help clean up," I offered, standing up.
Mrs. Miya gave me a grateful smile and rose with me. "Thank you, sweetheart. You really didn't have to, but I appreciate it."
We moved into the kitchen together, chatting quietly as we cleared the table. I rinsed the plates while she wiped down the counters. The familiar rhythm of working side by side made everything feel easy, warm, and comfortable.
Back in the dining room, Mr. Miya stood up with a satisfied grunt and walked over to the fridge. He pulled out the cheesecake—the one I'd made—perfectly chilled and glowing softly under the kitchen light. With a proud flourish, he set it right in the center of the table.
"Alright, who's ready for the grand finale?" he announced cheerfully.
Tobio perked up, curiosity lighting his face as he eyed the dessert.
Osamu leaned forward eagerly. "That better be Yuki's cheesecake."
"It is," Mr. Miya confirmed with a wink. "And it smells just as good as it looks."
I came back into the room, wiping my hands on a dish towel. I paused when I saw the cheesecake surrounded by plates and forks being passed around.
"Guess dessert's about to be judged," I teased, raising an eyebrow as I sat down again.
Osamu cut the first slice and handed it to me with a grin. "If it tastes anything like your cookies, you're about to win Christmas."
I rolled my eyes. "No pressure, huh?"
One by one, everyone took their slices. The first bites were met with quiet appreciation, a chorus of soft hums and nods of approval.
"Oh, this is delicious," Mrs. Miya declared.
Atsumu, mouth full, managed a muffled, "Holy crap, this is good."
Tobio smiled softly, already reaching for another bite. "It's perfect."
Osamu tapped his fork against mine. "Told you it'd be dangerous."
I grinned, cheeks warming at the praise. "I'm just glad it didn't crack," I muttered, poking the creamy slice on my plate.
