"And he walked back like he'd done nothing!" the gypsy explained, causing Clopin to frown, or rather, frown more than he had been already. Once the spy had come back Clopin had demanded a full report even with the time being rather unholy. Clopin sat back on his throne made of barrels, stoking his chin. He was not stupid, once he'd found the papers in his tent missing he'd realized something wasn't right and swiftly acted upon his instincts. So he'd tracked any new gypsy that left late. And the only one who did that at an intriguingly repetitious time was Nikolas. This information had both angered and hurt Clopin, how could the lad do such a thing to them? He was working for Frollo? A spy? That's the only way he could leave without getting hurt by the devil. Nikolas would pay dearly for this betrayal; their lives were already in jeopardy, who knows how much information that rat had given away? Standing up Clopin dismissed the skinny gypsy and began to pace, his group of 'officials' or rather, men who cared deeply about the Court and its inhabitants watching intently, the little bells on Clopin's jester outfit being the only sound in the tent as he stroked his small beard. Finally he froze, remembering something that made his blood boil, that rat had been spending time with Healia, no doubt twisting her heart to get information, his daughter; his poor sun sprite! She had been tricked and it would be a painful thing to tell her the truth about the beast, maybe he'd keep her out of this, it would only hurt her heart. And she didn't need that. But how could they retaliate this this information? It would have to be drastic, something large and dangerous, possibly deadly to Nikolas. Swiftly an idea came to his clever mind and a smile crept onto his face, making his officials grin as well, they knew that look well, it was the one Clopin had only when he'd gotten a brilliant idea. Turning to his officials Clopin righted his purple hat, grinning wildly.
"Men, I think I've got a plan for this traitor. Something to shut him up for good."
Nikolas knew that his argument with Frollo had left a sore spot between them; or rather a large, bloody swelled spot between them, sore was an understatement at this point. However now that they had an agreement he couldn't help but be a little more relaxed. He spent a more time with Healia, making her smile and laugh as much as he could. And when he was to bring information to Frollo he agreed with little argument because for once he'd sent the judge back to his cage, licking his wounds from their fight. Hopefully there would be very diminutive trouble from now on. But as he got ready to leave he was visited by Healia, standing outside his tent. Frantically he stuffed his things away and gave a quick, "Come in." She walked into his tent, smirking at the mess.
"Are you always so untidy?" He threw her a playful look.
"Yes, the only reason I'd clean-up is to search for something, but I know my way around a mess." Healia crossed her arms and left a small kiss on his cheek.
"Are you busy tonight?" She inquired, enjoying how he grinned widely at her affectionate gesture. Her question made him pause, glancing down.
"Well, a little busy..." the look of disappointment on her face made him sigh, maybe he could just skip the report tonight, he'd already given a lot of information; surely Frollo had all he needed. Deciding that tonight he would take his chances and spend it with sweet Healia he gave her a sneaky smile. "But I think I could spend the evening with you, what did you have in mind?" She brightened, clasping her hands together in delight.
"Tonight is supposed to be a full moon and, I thought it would be nice to take a moonlight walk past La Seine?" Romantic and sweetly innocent, he liked the idea greatly, even more so as the idea of her falling asleep and him carrying her back to the Court came to mind. Giving her a nod he winked.
"When do we leave Healia?" Healia's eyes glowed.
"Right away, if you're fine with that." Offering her a hand they began to walk out of the Court, side by side, unaware of the dangers to come.
Clopin opened Nikolas' tent, giving a smirk. He was right, the traitor wasn't here, tonight he was to give his report supposedly and that meant he'd be out and about, the perfect night to put his plan into action. Going to his group of men armed with torches and pitchforks he stood upon the hanging platform, clearning his voice.
"Friends and family, we are gathered here for a mission. And what mission is that? To bring a spy to justice, we have been told that the so called gypsy known as Nikolas is actually a spy for Frollo himself, and has been giving the Judge information about our whereabouts! Our solution? Get rid of the rat or risk the lives of our wives and children! If you are ready my comrades, we are to burn down his safe house with him in it, the cruel fate that Frollo has put many of our women through, wives, daughters, lovers and companions! Tonight under the light of the beautiful moon, we, strike, back!" There was uproar from the crowd of men, many of them waving their weapons and shouting boisterously to their leader. Picking up a torch Clopin smiled bitterly at the item that would soon cause much mayhem. "For my family, for my girls I shall do away with the true villain, tonight I shall be justice." He thought angrily before leading his men to the house that would burn.
Frollo glanced at the time, setting down his book and tapping his foot impatiently. Blast that gypsy he was late! Why did Frollo even depend on him anymore; the fool couldn't even tell time nowadays! Giving a growl he decided that he was not going to sit and wait idly for the gypsy to come to him, no, he was tired from a long day and just wanted to get the information and go to bed. So he left his warm fire and book and had his horse saddled, he was going to check that wretched boy and get the information for the night. Nikolas had probably stopped at his safe house, no doubt enjoying some hot drink or a luxury of that sort, oh when Frollo got his hands on him he would be begging for mercy! So once on his horse Frollo rode with speed to the safe house, unaware of the danger that would await him. He enjoyed the cool ride, the full moon giving light to the cobbled streets with not a soul in sight. He heard a faint sound however, like a giggle but dismissed it as the wind, besides; no one was up at this hour. Going to the safe house he left his horse and walked in, finding it empty. Cursing into the darkness he grappled around for a candle or something to provide light, stubbing his fingers and toes multiple times. Finally when he found a small candle he lit it with a match and began to look around, deciding this would be a fine time to investigate and see if Nikolas was withholding any information, that would get him thrown into prison and Frollo would be free of the brat's attitude and deal about that young woman, Healia or something of that nature. But as he climbed the stairs, going to check the rooms just to make sure Nikolas hadn't gone to sleep he was unaware of the group of gypsies outside, all of them silent like the dead. Clopin didn't want the rat to try and escape. Once in front of the house Clopin peered into the window, finding a candle lit and grinned. This was it, he was going to avenge his people; this house was sentenced to burn. Whirling to his men he cried out.
"Thisis the house and Nikolas hides within the house, we are to burn it until it'ssmoke rises to the heavens and his body goes to Hell! Light your torches menand burn the house!" Swiftly wine was poured upon fabric and tied to the woodenpoles before matches stuck and soon a large group of torches burned in the lateevening of Paris. With a war cry the torches were launched and swiftly thehouse caught onto the flame while they gypsies cheered and howled. But Clopin,to their surprise dismissed them, telling his war group that he alone wouldwatch it burn but would inform them all of the details. As much as they wantedto see the house turn to rubble they respected their leader and grudginglyagreed, most of them thankful that this meant they could go to sleep.
